A Message From The Principal
Dear Bay Lane Families,
Happy Valentine’s Day! We are excited to celebrate many heart-themed events this month. Students have been engaging in exciting phy ed classes this week to support the Kids Heart Challenge campaign. We will celebrate their successes during special assemblies on Feb. 19th (grades 2,3,4) and Feb. 20th (grades K/1). Mr. Carlson, Mr. Hetzel, Mr. Griffey, and I look forward to our “pie-in-the-face breakfast” during each event. Families are welcome to join us for the assembly - they are scheduled from 9:20 to 9:45 am. All guests are asked to sign in at the front entrance. Thank you to everyone for your support of Bay Lane Elementary’s first Kids Heart Challenge!
In valued partnership,
Sara Stanley, Bay Lane Elementary Principal
Kids Heart Challenge
Our students have had so much fun these past few weeks while participating in Kids Heart Challenge. Thank you all for your support by helping your student take the online heart healthy pledge, raising donations or both. If you have not had a chance to help---there is still time. Please be sure to ask your child about our service learning project and what they can do to make a difference. We are so close to our ONLINE REGISTRATION GOALS! Please jump online or download the app today to help! Remember, when REGISTERED online, students will automatically be asked to take the pledge of drinking more water, exercising 60 min a day and doing one good deed a day. They will also have access to fun, educational virtual games on their devices!
We achieved our 50% ONLINE REGISTRATION goal for our school to receive an additional $500 to purchase new playground and physical education equipment! Great Job!!
We need 109 more students to register in order for every student in the school to receive a “Mystery Prize”.
Every class that has 100% participation will get their teacher's name entered into a school drawing to win a $25 Amazon Gift Card and Recess Basket!
Lastly, everyone who registers online and takes the pledge will get a FREE Glow in the Dark Virtual Wristband. Please help us reach our online registration goals by clicking the link below OR using the Kids Heart Challenge App. With the app, your child will be able to scan their tattoo, sticker, wristband and much more. In addition, as they meet certain criteria, they can scan their virtual Heart Hero Key Chains and watch them “come to life”. All they have to do is look for the attached scan symbol on challenge items. I hope you will enjoy the virtual world of Heartsville and the Heart Heroes as much as we have! Thank you in advance for helping us encourage our students to be healthy, be kind and to help others.
The window for fundraising closes next Friday, February 22nd.

4th Grade Young Leaders Program
1st and 2nd Grade Author/Illustrator Visit
We are so fortunate to have an author visit our 1st and 2nd graders. Andy Rash’s presentations include dramatic readings, artistic demonstrations, discussions about creating books, and sometimes sing-alongs!
When: Thursday, February 28th
Students will be able to purchase books autographed by the author and the order forms are due by Monday, February 18. If you are interested in purchasing one of the books, please click here for the order form.
Unstinky, starring Bud the Stinkbug, is picture book silliness at its very best. All the other stink bugs smell like sour milk or gym socks, but poor Bud just can’t stink of anything but pine trees and candy canes – though he sure can dance! School Library Journal praised Unstinky, saying “This book will delight young audiences and remind them that it's okay to be yourself and find your own thing.” The illustrations are whimsical, brightly colored, and certain to make kids (and grown-ups) giggle with every reread.
The Happy Book: Camper is happy as a clam, and Clam is a happy camper. When you live in The Happy Book, the world is full of daisies and sunshine and friendship cakes…until your best friend eats the whole cake and doesn’t save you one bite. The characters show that feeling more than one emotion at once is not just okay, it’s part of what it means to be a person in the world. Andy Rash’s signature humor propels this sweet story of friendship forward. Publisher’s Weekly says “Rash’s bright, kinetic art captures the intensity of feelings.”

School Lunch and Recess Schedule and Menu
A message from food service:
Please make sure when sending in money with your child for hot lunch to clearly mark the student's name in the "memo section" of the check or if sending cash, write student's name on the envelope. This ensures the money goes into the family account. Also, when sending money, please discuss with your child the importance of turning funds in right away rather than being held in backpacks, lockers, or folders.
