2nd Grade Properties of Matter
In addition to instruction in the classroom, second grade reviewed their knowledge of properties of matter in the library. They viewed an instructional video showing how glass is made and changes properties. They created a mind map of the three properties of matter and gave an example of each property. The students did the mind map on the iPads using the Popplet app.
Mrs. Hinton & Library Leaders Installing Apps on New iPads
The library received 22 new iPad Air's for instructional use in the library. In addition, a charging cart was delivered. The iPads were purchased with bond monies and are a part of the Northern Hills Library Transformation Plan.
Makerspaces Club
After school, the library sponsors a Makerspaces Club made up of fourth and fifth graders. Makerspaces is where people can gather to create, invent, and learn. In November, the students were presented with a challenge to take materials and create a marshmallow launcher. In addition, the library is creating a Makerspaces area where students can go individually during the school day.
New Books and Nooks, Oh My!
The library had 135 new titles arrive in November! The majority of the titles are fiction. Also, we began checking out three Nooks that are preloaded with chapter books.
Book Fair
Thank you all for coming out and supporting the Book Fair. A percentage of the sales goes towards paying for reading incentives and author visits. We could not have a successful Book Fair without our wonderful volunteers. Our next Book Fair will be held in late February during the week of early release.
Fall Reading Challenge
Students were challenged over the Fall break to keep on reading. They were given a form to document the title of what they read and what habit from the 7 habits they felt goes with the book. They were required to do this at least seven times for 30 minutes each time. The prize for accomplishing the task is a glow in the dark READ cup.
