Principal's Messages
Dear Families,
I hope this finds you all well, and you are enjoying the warmer weather! I miss you all dearly. I do have some exciting news! Please mark your calendar for Tuesday, June 2nd at 6:00pm. We will be unveiling the 1st and 2nd grade mural paintings that students did with their classroom teachers in collaboration with Ms. Gengras. I will be sending out a Zoom invite closer to the date. We are hoping that many of you will be able to join us.
Take great care,
Katherine

Hello Hiawatha Families!
I miss you all. I love seeing many of you at ADL School each morning, at the Nutrition Services site. Just seeing familiar faces is comforting to me. Again, I miss you.
As information evolves in regards to COVID-19, I wanted to provide some guidance on a few things.
Face masks: If you need to leave your home, wear a cloth face covering. The Health Department recommends that all Vermonters wear cloth face coverings when outside of the home to help slow the spread of COVID-19. This advice is based on new data about how COVID-19 can spread before a person has any symptoms. A mask helps protect others around you if you are infected and don’t know it. A face covering is one more precaution we can take to help prevent the spread of the virus..
COVID-19 Testing: Anyone without symptoms can now be tested at a pop-up location. Health care workers, first responders, and child care providers are encouraged to get tested. People who are returning to Vermont, and who are at day 7 or later in their quarantine period, can also be tested. Find testing locations and dates and register for a test(link is external). Please call your health care provider if you have any of these symptoms: cough, fever, shortness of breath, chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, loss of taste or smell.
Doctor’s Offices: Please know that pediatric practices are open. Most are still doing well visits/yearly physicals. They have very careful practices in place to keep everyone safe in their offices. If your child needs immunizations, please be in touch with your pediatrician.
If you have any questions, concerns, or just need to talk, please feel free to email me at rmaher@ewsd.org or you can call/text my cell phone #598-6081
Reminder from Ms. Gengras
Hi artists and families!
I'm guessing many of you have questions about when you will see your artwork again, and might be wondering about our Square1Art fundraiser too. Below is an update for you about where we are now with all of this. I will continue to keep you posted as I receive more information and again, please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any additional questions or concerns.
Thank you for your patience and understanding during this unprecedented time.
Murals: This year's Integrated Arts theme was mural painting. The plan was that each grade-level in the school would design and paint their own mural. However due to school closing, only 1st and 2nd graders were able to participate in this project. Kindergarteners had started the planning process, but did not get to the painting. This means that next year, Art Integration will most likely start with Kindergarten and 3rd grade. There is good news though! 1st and 2nd graders did paint murals will be unveiled June 2nd at 6:00PM!
Square1Art: Mrs. Mayhue has been communicating with team members at Square1Art and the PTO will soon be sending out a letter/update about this fundraiser. We spent a lot of time on our self-portraits this year and you all worked SO hard. It is very important to me that this work be celebrated. Regardless of whether or not the fundraiser takes place, your masterpieces will be returned to you. We discussed the possibility of posting them in an online art show, so I will let you know if that is possible as soon as I find out and receive more information. Stay tuned for more information here, and from members of the PTO.
Sketchbooks, Portfolios and Your Artwork: All of your artwork is still at school - just the way we left it. Since we are unable to access the school or materials within the building right at this moment, we will have to wait. However I want to assure you that all of your work is safe, and will be returned to you as soon as possible. My guess is that it may be at the beginning of our next school-year. However if there is any way that I can get it back to you any sooner, I will do whatever I can to make that happen. If you are in 3rd grade and will not be returning to Hiawatha next year, I will still find a way to get it back to you. That may mean mailing it home, having it be picked up, or even sending it with a sibling that still attends Hiawatha. In my opinion though, really the best way to pick up your artwork will be to come visit me in the art room! I will miss you 3rd graders so it will make me very happy to see you again.
