Please take a moment to complete the Confidential Free/Reduced Price Lunch Application
Even though breakfast/lunches are free for families right now, it's still important that they complete a Free/Reduced Price Lunch Application (called Application for Educational Benefits).
It impacts many aspects of school funding in addition to providing family benefits. Failure to turn in a completed application will forfeit a child’s ability to have a free/reduced lunch, waiver of instrument rental fees, waiver of activity and athletic fees, etc.
Families who would like support completing this application, please contact the Child Nutrition office at 218-336-8789.
Fill out the form online OR Download an application, submit to school.
Free bagged meals are available weekdays when school is in session to children 18 years of age and younger.
- Parents/Guardians can pick up the bagged meal without students present.
- Click here for distribution locations and times.
Academic Coursework Reminders
In our Canvas Learning Management System:
Class content will be released in modules.
A module is a collection of course content and tasks organized by topic to be completed during a certain amount of time.
Teachers will try their best to not alter a module after it has been published. If changes need to be made to a module, students will be notified via a message in Canvas.
Content modules will be posted on Thursday morning, and the work will be due the following Wednesday at noon.
College In The Schools (CITS) ATTENDANCE Requirements are different
synchronous vs. asyncronous: What does it mean?
ASYNCHRONOUS means the learning happens individually and when it works for the student. This type of work includes the assignments, written discussions, posted videos, etc. that students can do any time within that week.
SYNCHRONOUS can mean two things but it does always mean being interacting TOGETHER online. The confusion comes in when we talk about whether or not it's required and part of the grade. In Duluth's current model, there will be lots of opportunities for students and teachers to interact together (synchronously) through online meetings but it won't be required. What our students and teachers do together online will build on what they do in Canvas but everything that is required of them for a grade will be asynchronous, or on their own time with the assigned week. "Showing up" for those online sessions will be a big part of their success and engagement but this model prevents technical or life issues from hurting their grade if they CAN'T be part of every online session.
There will be a lot of flexibility for students. Those key experiences online should include more than one time option for students to be in over the course of that week.
*The exception here, as always, is CITS courses as we have to meet college requirements. Those courses may have REQUIRED time together online.
Remember to log in for class time as often as possible!

Activities Office Updates
We are pleased to announce that additional extracurricular opportunities will start to be added in the days and weeks to come that include very limited in-person opportunities. Advisors, Directors, and Coaches will be working closely with administrators and our maintenance staff to ensure we have appropriate COVID protocol plans in place, similar to those our athletic teams have submitted. The space and times available for these extracurricular activities are very limited so the in-person opportunities will be very limited, too. We anticipate more extensive opportunities once we return in hybrid or full return models for school.
Watch for information in this section each week for opportunities to be involved! Many of our clubs, teams, and organizations will be able to meet completely virtually, too, and we'll share what we can about those, too. These opportunities are a critical part of your high school experience and we look forward to being able to do even a little bit in person.
The Activities Office is selling masks and neck gaiters for $10 each. Contact them for more information or to arrange pick up.

AUDITIONS!
The Duluth East Drama Club will be holding auditions for a fall play called The Drowning Girls. Based on the "Brides in the Bath" murders in early 20th century England, The Drowning Girls recounts the true story of Bessie, Alice and Margaret, three women who were all wooed by, married to, and eventually murdered by George Joseph Smith. Emerging from the stillness of their watery graves, the three women deliver hauntingly lyrical post-mortem testimonies.
Initial auditions will be held virtually next week, September 23-24. Callbacks will be on Friday, September 25th at East from 3:45-5:30. See the linked audition form for more information.
Both those interested in cast roles and technical positions MUST sign up for an audition slot. Those auditioning will be asked to read/perform a provided reading. Those interested in the technical aspect will have a brief interview with the directors.
You may sign up for a slot by email greg.jones@isd709.org or peter.froehlingsdorf@isd709.org. Please let them know what day you would like to audition. Full scripts will be shared electronically with those who sign up for auditions.
The production will take place Thursday, October 29 and Friday, October 30 at 7:00 pm. For safety reasons, we’ll be performing live on stage and streaming to a drive in audience at East High School!
All CDC and MSHSL safety protocols will be strictly adhered to during both the rehearsal and performance process.
