message from the principal

This week we will have our first-ever assembly for our 2nd through 5th graders as our music teacher, Mrs. Bryan, conducts our Veteran's Day program! Please see below for more information about this assembly and how you can participate virtually with this invitation-only event. We already have two more assemblies scheduled, one with the Woodcreek Middle School band and the other with the Woodcreek theater group, who will present Rainbow Fish to some of our smaller students. We will release more information on that in the near future.

Last Friday we celebrated the staff members that we call the "Ace of the Month." This is similar to how we celebrate students in that staff members nominate other staff members who embody our core values at ACE. Our finalist was Jessica Stringer, our nurse. If you have interacted with her you have seen her heart for kids and heart of service, and we celebrate her because she truly shows what the ACE way is all about each day. And yes, she has been very busy this year!

And since we are on an attendance push, I'd like to plant another seed with you, our families. As I have previously mentioned, we have had a lot of absences this year. You see below that about 40% of students have 3 or more absences, which is not surprising. What may be surprising is that about 10% of our students have missed 10 or more days this year. Do you know how many days your kids have been out of school this year?

We know that the reasons for absences can vary widely. You will begin receiving a lot more communication from our school regarding your student's absences, if they have accumulated a lot of them. Our goal is to partner with you to make sure kids are at school every day, as much as possible. If they are here, they are learning!

Instructional Strategy for Families

Interested in helping your child learn to code? Try out scratchjr.org
This is a free coding game that will walk your child through the introductions of coding at home.

SNACK DRIVE

Would you be willing to purchase a box of individually wrapped snacks for ACE students? First and foremost, we encourage families to do this throughout the year for their child's classroom. Please continue to send these to school with your student so the teacher can store them.

We do have a few classrooms that have inconsistently had an available snack, such as specials teachers and some of our special education classrooms. If you are interested in donating toward those, please bring a box of individually wrapped snacks to the front office and tell Susana that they are for the school snack drive.

Thank you for helping us with this!

VETERANS ASSEMBLY

Our Veteran's Day assembly is this week, when ACE students celebrate our veterans from the armed services! As a reminder, to help keep crowd size low, we have invited only veterans to come to the assembly. This will not be an event where we allow families to come in and participate. There will come a time in the future when we do that more frequently, so don't worry!
