Welcome to 'the new Toronto'
The Globe and Mail writes that there is a growing phenomenon in Toronto’s neighborhoods called “the Brooklyn effect.” According to Kate Watson, a Bosley Real Estate agent, real estate values in gritty, downtown neighbourhoods are closing the gap with more tony areas nearby. Today, buyers with deep pockets are willing to put cash into a singular property in a funky area rather than maintaining their investment in an established enclave. "It's cool and interesting for their friends to visit," says Ms. Watson. "It's the new Toronto."
A McMaster University professor recently handed his urban geography class an interesting assignment: Uncover Toronto neighbourhoods where a new resident would find just the right mix of lifestyle and value.
