Preschool Press

October 2016

Thank You!

Our Scholastic Book Fair was a huge success! It was so wonderful to see all of our preschoolers so excited about all of the books! Thank you so much for your support of this preschool event. Fifty percent of the proceeds from the fair is used for new literacy resources for all of our classrooms!

Great Job Turning Right!

We really appreciate all of you helping with our carpool safety and flow by turning right when you exit. Thank you for passing along this reminder to babysitters, grandparents, and anyone else who might pick up your preschoolers. It is a huge help!!

October is Fire Safety Month!

The statistics on injuries and deaths from fire are sobering. But there is so much we can do to lower the risks by being prepared! At Weekday Preschool, we talk about firefighters as community helpers we can trust in an emergency. We conduct fire drills so that teachers and children will be ready if that fire alarm sounds. There are ways you can prepare at home. Below are some tips from

Top Tips

  1. Working smoke alarms reduce the chances of dying in a fire by nearly 50 percent. They are a critical first step for staying safe, but in order to be effective, they have to be working properly. For the best protection, install smoke alarms on every level of your home and in every sleeping area.
  2. Teach kids never to play with matches and lighters. Make a habit of placing these items up and away from young children.
  3. Create and practice a home fire escape plan with two ways out of your house in case of a fire. Get a stopwatch and time how fast your family can escape. The kids will love it.
  4. Children should know how to respond to the sound of a smoke alarm. Teach them to get low and get out when they hear it. A child who is coached properly ahead of time will have a better chance to be safe.
  5. Use common sense in the kitchen. Limit distractions when cooking and don’t leave a hot oven or stovetop unattended.

Square 1 Art Fundraiser is coming!

Square 1 Art is a preschool tradition we love! In a few weeks, a customized order form will come home to you featuring a work of art handmade by your child. Many wonderful items are available for order with this one-of-a-kind work such as key chains, coffee mugs, porcelain trivets, and more. This is great way to go ahead and get gifts for grandparents for Christmas!! If you would like to see the types of products that are available, you can go to anytime!

What does this fundraiser support? Profits from our Square 1 Art fundraiser help us with equipment purchases and maintenance for our classrooms as well as support our need-based scholarship program. We thank you for your participation!
