VVS Mindfulness Session -- Culture
#mindfulVVS -- Date TBD
Hi VVS Friends!
Today we're going to take a deeper dive into Trauma-Informed Mindfulness with an activity surrounding culture and different levels of culture. The intent is to bring awareness to our own culture and awareness of other cultures. This helps build self-awareness and awareness of our surroundings, including students, families & peers.
Looking forward to our time together!
James

- What was a highlight of your weekend?
Trauma-Informed Mindfulness
Last month, we took a look at an article titled, "Nine Ways To Ensure Your Mindfulness Teaching Practice is Trauma-Informed." Several points mentioned safety, relationships and intersectionality, so we're going to do an activity surrounding culture that deeply connects with those points. The activity is from the book by Zaretta Hammond, Culturally Responsive Teaching and the Brain. It's an outstanding book that several Austin schools have done book studies on and there is a focus on mindfulness in the book. Additionally, there was a great blog post on Cult of Pedagogy about the misconceptions of Culturally Responsive Teaching.
