Pleasant Run Elementary School

December 17, 2018

Dear Pleasant Run Families:

This will be our final newsletter for the semester. We want to update you on the various celebrations and activities students may be participating in throughout the week.

The NSGRA (Next Steps in Guided Reading Assessment) will take place in your child’s reading block, 1:1 with the teacher. Your student will read a passage and answer a few comprehension questions; their level of accuracy will help determine their current reading level (from A--Z). The testing window opened on December 3rd. Students also took this assessment at the start of the school year in August.

The NWEA assessment tests your student's growth in the areas of reading and math. This assessment is one your student takes 3 times per year, each year they attend school in Warren Township. You probably remember seeing this data at Fall Conference Day in October; we will send your student’s updated scores home once we have access to them. The testing window opens on January 8th - your child’ teacher can let you know what specific testing dates your child can prepare for. All students who meet or exceed their projected growth goals will earn Out of Dress Code Days! A student meeting/exceeding their goal in both Reading AND Math will earn TWO Out of Dress Code Days!

Our CORE Celebration will take place on Friday. Students may also wear their favorite PJ's for $1.

On behalf of myself, the Pleasant Run Administrative Team, and Staff, we’d like to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas! Thank you for your continued support of your child and our school - we appreciate you! Please contact me at 532-3803 if you have any further questions.

Mr. Koomler

Well it’s that time of year when we need to remind parents to make sure their children have appropriate clothing for recess. We will be going outside for recess if the temperature and the wind chill are above 20 degrees.

Joining the PTA allows you to meet some great people. PTA functions are opportunities to meet other parents and teachers, to build rapport and discuss issues that are on your mind. You can share ideas, concerns, and experiences to make the school year better for everyone.

The mission of the Pleasant Run Elementary PTA is to act in the interest of the children, to encourage understanding and cooperation between parents and teachers, and to promote programs that benefit the success of children’s learning. The Pleasant Run PTA supports education through active participation and advocacy.

Pleasant Run Elementary has a very active and supportive PTA. We sponsor many fun events throughout the school year. We also provide volunteers for many school events as well as provide support for school programs such as Super Reader, Breakfast with Santa and the annual fund raiser. Please join us for a PTA meeting to see what we’re all about.
