Maker Club Taking Apart Computers
Thanks to the Springdale Technology Department and the Potter's House for their donations of old computers for this activity!
Students worked together in groups
to disassemble the computers.
They also used their Chromebooks
to identify the parts of the computer.
Creating Smartphone Hologram Projectors Part I
Students first had to measure the old CD cases.
Creating Hologram Projectors Part II
The second step was to cut each of the 4 sections into rhombus shapes.

Students then sanded and combined the 4 sections before taping them together.

students used their smartphones to scan QR codes of various 3D images and viewed them on their smartphones.
They were looking for which images
projected best.

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with Guest Speakers
In Celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month
the LJHS Library hosted guest speaker Macarena Arce, a Peruvian student attending the University of Arkansas.
More than 30 students and teachers attended her lunchtime presentations.
Ms. Arce shared...
about the geography and government of Peru. She compared Peru and the United States' government systems as an extension of what 9th graders have been learning about in their government classes.
Panamanian Students from the University of Arkansas...
shared a presentation with our students through both lunch periods.
They shared a traditional dance
as well as information comparing Panama's government system with the United States.
Several students stayed afterward to visit
with the presenters and take selfies.

We are in the process of setting up another Hangout with this class on the topic of migration and the Syrian refugee crisis.

We held a mystery Hangout with this class and located their nation, city, as well as their school using atlases and Google Maps.
