If you're new to the Title III team - WELCOME! For some of the teachers new to TPS, I've added your personal email to the listserv so that you have the information but will update it to your tulsaschools.org email once those are set up.

Title III/ELD Updates for 2015-2016
We have been working on new and expanded resources, supports, and services for all staff supporting English Language Learners. Here is a preview of some of the new things happening in Title III for School Year 2015-2016! Training & details coming soon!
ELLevation: All principals will receive ELLevation licenses & training to access & analyze their current ELL students’ information on the data dashboard.
InClass: ELLevation’s InClass platform is new for all general education teachers to access their ELL’s LIEPs, FELL Monitoring, & ELL collaboration online through a virtual platform.
ACCESS 2.0: The ACCESS test will launch its redesigned, online test administration this school year. The testing window is 02/08/16 to 04/01/16.
SIOP Reboot: The Title III Advisory Committee will be drafting a SIOP reboot & expansion plan to align existing resources & services and expand SIOP professional learning opportunities & supports for all staff.
Dual Language Expansion: Springdale ES will join Dual Language Academy, Kendall-Whittier ES, Sequoyah ES, & Skelly ES in offering Dual Language classes through their general education classrooms by learning in TWO languages!
ESL Teacher Certification: All ELD teachers who do not have ESL teacher certification will have until June 2016 to earn certification. Title III offers a number of test prep resources including study groups, online modules, & study resources.

Title III Professional Learning Opportutnites for August 2015
Estrellita Training
August 6th, 8:30am to 3:30pm
Enrollment Center Library, 2819 S New Haven Ave
*Please park in the east parking lot at the Enrollment Center and enter through the north doors.
Estrellita is a supplemental reading system for Spanish Language Arts which Dual Language teachers will use in Kindergarten & 1st grade classrooms. Materials are available only to Dual Language teachers in these grade levels but all are welcome to attend training. Stipends available.
KWAPT Training
August 7th, 8:30am to 11:30am
Enrollment Center Library, 2819 S New Haven Ave, Tulsa
*Please park in the east parking lot at the Enrollment Center and enter through the north doors.
KWAPT is the Kindergarten WAPT test which is administered to all Kindergarteners and First Graders (Fall Semester) who indicate a language other than English in the home. Certified and support staff can be trained to administer the KWAPT. Training is only required for new KWAPT test administrators in Tulsa PS. Repeat training sessions will be offered later in September.
WAPT Training – Elementary
August 7th, 12:30pm to 3:30pm

WAPT-Elementary is the screening assessment administered to all First Graders (Spring Semester) through Sixth Graders who indicate a language other than English in the home and do not have an existing ACCESS for ELLs language proficiency score. Certified and support staff can be trained to administer the WAPT. Training is only required for new WAPT test administrators in Tulsa PS. Repeat training sessions will be offered later in September.
ELD Teacher Bootcamp (New Teacher Orientation)
August 10th – 12th, 8:30am to 3:30pm
Wilson Teaching & Learning Academy, 2710 E 11th St
ELD Teacher Bootcamp is an opportunity for new ELD teachers, both new to TPS and not new to TPS but new to ELD, to learn about the basic foundational pieces of providing effective ELD services, including training in language assessments (Pre-Kindergarten Screener, KWAPT, & WAPT), the SIOP Framework, ELLevation Education, PowerSchool for ELD, ELL Student Folder, ELD Curriculum resources, and additional services, resources, and supports available to ELD teachers throughout the year. ELD teachers will work with SIOP lesson planning components and receive an overview of effective co-teaching strategies. Stipends available.
Gómez and Gómez Dual Language Training Institute
August 10th – 12th, 8:30am to 3:30pm
Enrollment Center Library, 2819 S New Haven Ave (Potential location change to the new Dual Language Academy – Registered attendees will receive an update if the location changes).
The Gómez and Gómez Dual Language framework provides an understanding of Dual Language instruction, key components of this instructional framework, and strategies and techniques to support teachers working with Dual Language Learners. Stipends available.
Calle de Lectura Training
August 13th, 8:30am to 3:30pm
Dual Language Academy, 2703 N Yorktown Pl
Calle de Lectura is the Spanish Language Arts & Reading curriculum used in the Dual Language classrooms across the district. This training will provide attendees with an understanding of the curriculum components, the embedded resources and supports, and effective ways to support Dual Language Learners in their Spanish literacy development. Stipends available.
Co-Teaching with ELLs
August 17th, 12:30pm to 3:30pm
Martin Regional Library
Learn about effective strategies and techniques for building relationships with fellow teachers and enhancing instruction of both content and language development as an instructional team. The multiple co-teaching models will be reviewed as well as how each has strengths and supports for various instructional lesson presentations.
SIOP Seminar
August 27th, 3:30pm to 4:30pm (Elementary) & 4:30pm to 5:30pm (Secondary)
Wilson Teaching & Learning Academy, 2710 E 11th St
SIOP Seminars are a new professional learning opportunity to enhance the understanding and application of the SIOP components in effective instructional practice. These seminars will be hosted on a monthly basis and will focus on one component of SIOP per quarter. By focusing on a specific SIOP component across multiple seminars, participants will have the opportunity to increase their understanding of the component, apply the component within their instructional practice and engage in active reflection on the component through a series of learning activities and peer collaboration. The SIOP component for the first quarter is Preparation. Stipends available.

Video 1: Academic Vocabulary Development by Andy Mizell, a 5th-8th grade ELL teacher at Margaret Allen Middle Prep in Nashville, TN. Andy collaborated with Nicole Fedele and Kellee Hill on this video project.
Video 2: Fostering Active Comprehension: Asking and Answering Questions by Shadia Salem, a first grade Transitional Arabic Bilingual Teacher at Dorn Elementary School in Hickory Hills, IL.
3rd place: ENL New Arrival High School Students: Encouraging Communication in a New Language by Mindy Lewis-Hitch, the 9th grade English as a New Language Department Lead Teacher at Ben Davis 9th Grade Center in Wayne Township, IN.
