A little about the country first...
Portugal is a southern European country on the Iberian Peninsula, bordering Spain and the Atlantic Ocean. Because Portugal borders the Atlantic Ocean ofcourse they will have seafood, so salt cod and grilled sardines are national dishes. Also its oceanside location is many aspects of its culture. People in Portugal mainly speak Portegeese and/or Spanish.

Portugal Exploration
Portugal, the European country, was one of the primary players in the European Age of Discovery and Exploration. Under the leadership of Prince Henry the Navigator, Portugal took the principal role during most of the fifteenth century in searching for a route to Asia by sailing south around Africa.
What was the whole reason for the exploration
Prince Henry who was the navigator, was "determined to see Portuguese sailors sail down the west coast of Africa to find the limits of the Muslim world (in order to defeat the Muslims), and to find the legendary Christian empire of the priest-king Prester John "(who did not, in fact, exist).

Vasco da Gama
Bartolomeu Dias
Who were Famous Explorers.
- Ferdinand Magellan was a Portuguese explorer who organised the Castilian expedition to the East Indies from 1519 to 1522, resulting in the first circumnavigation of the Earth
- Vasco da Gama extended Dias' journey in 1488, reached India and returned home with an alluring array of jewels and spices. He was also the first explorer to establish a new trade route to asia
- Bartholomeu Dias headed a venture in 1487 that had an all-water route to India; he was unable to complete his quest, but managed to round the southern tip of Africa and sail into the Indian Ocean.
Why is the age of exploration influencing us and connecting with us today?
If not for the age of exploration, the world would be an entirely different place today. Many changes that occured then are visible now. For example, the idea of gravity that we take for granted wasn't even known to people until they were free from strict religion.
