Winter is Here!
From Ms. Diggs, Dove Librarian
Dove Spring Book Fair is March 25-29
The book fair is coming back! Flyers will be coming home this week, and the students will be attending the book fair preview on Friday. Look for a wish list either on paper or on their iPads this weekend! When deciding on books for your child to purchase, remember that tax is not included in the book prices, but will be added when they check out. Send a few extra dollars with them to cover this cost. Or, check out the new eWallet feature that Scholastic is rolling out! Visit the book fair website to learn more.
Ms. Diggs is looking for parents to help set up the book fair this Thursday and to help students shop at the book fair next week. If you have some time to spare this week or next, consider volunteering! Visit the sign up sheet and find a time that is convenient for you.
GCISD Reads
The GCISD Reads initiative is designed to build a love of reading in students - encouraging them to read a large quantity and a wide variety of books. Students have a choice of the challenge they wish to complete. Students can participate in one of the following challenges:
- 1,500 pages (K-2)
- 2,500 pages (3-5)
- 100 Book Challenge (K-2)
- 25 Book Challenge (3-5; books should be at least 100 pages)
- Genre Challenge (1-5)
Reading can take place inside or outside of school using physical books or electronic materials (ebooks and audiobooks). Students will keep track of their reading on a log that notes the title, number of pages, genre, and date completed. The links above will take you to each recording sheet. Once students have completed their challenge, logs should be returned to the classroom teacher or the Ms. Diggs. The challenges run until May 1, 2019. Students may complete as many challenges as they like throughout the school year. We will have a celebration at the end of the year to commemorate them meeting their personal goals.
Volunteers Needed!
From Dove PTA
2019-2020 Dove PTA Officers
The Dove Elementary PTA is in the process of filling Officer and Committee Chair Positions for the upcoming 2019-20 school year. We have some positions that are opening up next year, and we are looking for volunteers to fill these important roles.
CLICK HERE {https://www.dovepta.org/nominations} to complete an interest form. Completing this form simply shows interest in a position. This is not a commitment to take on the role, and it just lets us know that you would like to learn more. We have a variety of positions that will work with different schedules.
The 2019-20 PTA Officers will be voted in during our General Meeting held on April 25th. Our PTA is only as strong as our volunteers. Together we can make big things happen for our school. We welcome any and all volunteer interest, and we will gladly work with you to find a role that fits your time and abilities.
The current Nominating Committee is Rosanne Medlin, Jennifer Vasquez, Amanda Clower, and Becca Garrett, and they can be reached via email at nominating@dovepta.org with any questions.
