Attendance waiver pilot
As the school year draws to a close, the guidance team will be issuing reminders to students who have missed classes and need to complete an absence waiver so they are counted as credit. Waivers are not always granted. Please be aware this year we are trying to determine a meaningful way to make-up the missed time. This year, students may have the option to complete community service projects to help improve the school and grounds rather than just sitting in a classroom during a lunch break.
Zamer's Corner ~ Highlights from our Assistant Principal
This week in Mr. Meyer’s Intro to Robotics and Electronics classes students were working on programming a robot to run a course. Students worked in small groups to code and test their robots while checking in with the other peer groups to support, encourage, and gain insight into alternative ways of solving the challenge. Collaborative problem-solving and hands-on projects are all hallmarks of being a Trailblazer. It was fun watching you all problem solve, change course, and eventually find success. Way to go, Mr. Meyer and our MTRS Robotics students!

ArtTeens after school program
Applications Available for ARTeens after school program at The Art Garden.
ARTeens is a pay-what-you-can program for teens who love making art.
Spring session begins April 26th. Online applications open until the program is full.
Applications are now available for ARTeens, a pay-what-you-can program for teens who love making art. Spring sessions begin the week of April 26.
ARTeens is a weekly, after school program at The Art Garden in Shelburne Falls open to middle and high school teens (ages 12-19) who are interested in making art. Applications are available online at theartgarden.wordpress.com under Programs for Teens.
ARTeens is a 20-week program that runs in the fall, winter and spring. Teens can participate in one, two or all three sessions. Fall and spring sessions are offered on either Tuesdays or Thursdays. Applicants choose which day works best for their schedules. The spring sessions run for seven weeks. Participating teens arrive at The Art Garden between 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. and the program ends at 6pm.
ARTeens is facilitated by working artists Jane Beatrice Wegscheider and Laura Iveson and provides an opportunity for teens to cultivate an art practice in The Art Garden’s supportive, intergenerational studio. With an emphasis on personal responsibility and self-direction, teens explore and critique the world around them, develop their own voices, and share their ideas. ARTeens offers a sense of community while nurturing uniqueness and engagement in a diverse and non-judgmental group.
Now in its ninth year, the ARTeens program is made possible, in part, by a YouthReach grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council. The program costs $350 per session, but no one is ever turned away due to lack of funds. Families are expected to contribute something because every contribution helps make the program possible.
In the past eight years, over 70 teens (from 15 towns, five schools and homeschooling) have participated in the program. Many teens participate in multiple sessions, enjoying the freedom to express themselves and direct their own art-making. Teens also participate in other programs and events at The Art Garden.
For more information, contact Jane Beatrice Wegscheider at The Art Garden, csartgarden@gmail.com.
