ALA Media and Book Awards Announced
Denver Public Library’s Best and Brightest Books of 2015
In case you missed the event in December, DPL has release their fully annotated list of books worth checking out that were published in 2015. It is a great way to keep up on the latest and greatest.
Lists for Children (it breaks out into picture books, beginning readers, chapter books, nonfiction, graphic novels, poetry and biographies)
Teen List (Goes to their Evolver site where Teens also share their picks)NYPL releases 18,000 images into public domain
The New York public library recently released a large portion of their digital image collection into the public domain:http://www.nypl.org/research/collections/digital-collections/public-domain
Britannica School Apps
We subscribe to Britannica School, which is the collection of online Britannica databases.They now have Sharing Apps for both iOS and Chrome devices. These apps place an icon on user’s device that links them directly to Britannica School.
For iOS:
Open mobile Safari browser on the iOS device
Go to school.eb.com using the browser
Tap on the share icon (square with up arrow)
Tap on Add to Home Screen
Tap on Add
Shortcut to the site is added to home screen
For Chrome:
Go to the Chrome Web Store (https://chrome.google.com/webstore) using the Chrome browser
Search for “Britannica School”
Click “Add to Chrome” at the right
When prompted, click ‘Add’ to confirm
Britannica School will now be added to your Chrome Apps page
New Tumblebooks Interface
Tumblebooks just completely revamped their interface. Some new features include:
When you choose a book, you will now see a "You may also like" feature on the bottom of the page.
an audio quiz for each title (in addition to regular quiz)
updatedTumbleSearch feature, which now has 8 fields. In addition to searching by Title, Author, and Reading Levels (like AR and Lexile), you can also search by Subject, Genre, Language, and TumbleTime. "Auto-Complete" now compensates for typos and spelling mistakes.
as always, you can switch back and forth between the English, French, Spanish, and Mobile sites using the drop down menu on the top right hand corner of the page.
