Un Mensaje de Directora Sarlos:
Dear Palisades Parents,
I have good news and some news that will bring mixed emotions.
I have recently hired Libni Coulibaly to come and join our staff! She is a native Spanish speaker with 10 years of teaching experience! Libni is originally from Guatemala and has been teaching Spanish Immersion for five years and taught in an International school in Abidjan on Ivory Coast Africa.
Sadly, right on the heels of confirming that Libni would join us, I got the hard news that our beloved Maria Krekorian has taken another job in our district. She will become an ESL teacher at three Elementary Schools in Lake Oswego. So, I have recently posted the 3rd-grade position again as I have asked Libni to teach 4th grade. As HR processes are what they are it will be at least 10 days before I will be able to hire a teacher for this spot. However, I started interviewing for it yesterday.
This is what Maria would like to share with you:
Un Mensaje de Maestra Krekorian:
Dear Palisades Community:
It is with mixed emotions that I announce that I will no longer be the 4th grade Spanish immersion teacher next school year. I am very fortunate to have been part of this program for eight years, and I’ve seen incredible things happen for our students. It’s been an absolute privilege being part of this learning community.
My goal has always been to reach as many students and families as possible. When the pandemic forced schools to be online, I temporarily left my classroom to do a special assignment within the Spanish immersion program. I had the opportunity to teach science, social studies and Spanish language arts for third, fourth and fifth graders. It was an incredible experience to work with multiple grade levels, and to focus deeply on what students needed in order to receive the best education possible in unprecedented conditions. It inspired me to expand my skills as an educator.
When it was announced the Palisades would reopen to house the Spanish immersion program in 2021, I was excited to return to the classroom to support our students that were coming back to in person instruction, and also our team as we opened a new school. It was a BIG task that required enormous effort from parents, staff, and most importantly, our students. We faced many challenges, but we did it, and it was an amazing success. Go Phoenixes!
Now that we have a year under our belt at Palisades, I know that the program will continue to thrive and grow. In my next journey I will be serving English Language Learners (ELL) in LOSD. I started as an ELL student myself when I was 14 years old, and I am thrilled to see my career come full circle in this new role.
Thank you for your support all these years. I will greatly miss our students, families, and staff at one of the most welcoming places I have ever worked in. ¡MIL GRACIAS!
