Welcome...from SHAPE Midwest District President, Dr. Andro Barnett

Hello SHAPE Midwest District!

Welcome to our first MWD SMORE Newsletter. It was approximately a year and a half ago that our campuses, our states, and our country began to fully realize the severity and complexity of the Coronavirus and that we were facing a pandemic. Since then, schools have worked tirelessly to keep their schools safe and operational while continuing to provide our students the ability to pursue their education. As quickly as decisions were made, things changed, and new decisions had to be made. Nothing seemed to be stable – except our determination to keep moving forward, and our desire to keep our student's success as our goal. We appreciate ALL that you have done to reach your students during this unprecedented time in education. It has been challenging work, and we hear, feel and see all that you have experienced.

We are finally seeing hope and light during this challenging times, and we have so much to celebrate. However, we are not yet ready to abandon the policies and procedures that have been put in place to keep us all safe. While there is, and will continue to be, ongoing state and national discussions of reducing restrictions, increasing numbers of gathered people, and wearing masks, SHAPE Midwest District will hold fast to the policies that have helped keep us going through this past year, making modest and incremental adjustments only in ways that are consistent with guidance from the experts. We won’t always have to wear a mask, meet by Zoom and not shake hands, but for now, we will continue to do those things for the health and safety of us all, especially our students. It is important for all of us as HPE professionals to take extra time to care for ourselves as we help others.

We look forward to sharing highlights from SHAPE America and Midwest District to all of our members throughout the year, and connecting with all of you through this newsletter.

I am very proud to be your President, and I see a bright future for SHAPE Midwest District because of each of you.

President

Dr. Andro L Barnett
