Parent Support Group, It Takes A Village

Tuesday, October 4, 6:00-7:00 pm in the media center and a repeat session

Wednesday, October 5, 9:30-10:30 am. (come to the front office)

Join us to meet other parents and gain support in the most important job we will ever have....parenting!

*Parents and caregivers only please. No childcare is available at this time.

Our PTA is currently at 35% of their $40,000 goal for our Matey-Move-a-thon! Our students are excited to be working towards putting a rock climbing wall in our gym and to finish our outdoor shelter.

Our PTA is in the final stage of contract work with the contractor and we are hoping some of the work on the outdoor shelter will be completed prior to the New Year.

The funds raised sponsor far more than the rock wall and outdoor shelter. They support having cultural arts programs that our PTA scheduled. This year students will participate in a drumming program and anti-bullying program. Our 4th Graders will work with an author in residency for a week and our 5th graders will work on their legacy project with an artist in residency. The funds also provide support to our teachers, purchase items for curriculum, and help in many other ways.

Families are welcome to join students during the Matey-Move-a-thon this year. More information will be sent later this week.

  • 4th & 5th @ 9:30
  • 3rd & 2nd @ 10:30
  • 1st & Kinder @ 11:30
  • PreK @ 12:30

Thank you on behalf of the staff for all of your support.

Volunteer Support In The Cafeteria

Beginning the week of Oct 10, we are going to be seeking support in our cafeteria. The volunteer support provided last year was extremely beneficial. We look forward to bringing this volunteer opportunity back this school year and would like to thank everyone in advance.

We have shifted the sign up to be 3 times:

  • 10:30-11:30 - 5th and 4th Grade
  • 11:30-12:30 - 2nd and Kindergarten
  • 12:40-1:40 - 3rd and 1st Grade

Please consider signing up for just one day to provide support. Thank you!

Field Trips

We are excited to once again provide students with learning opportunities through the use of field trips. Our staff has worked hard to find field trip opportunities that align to instruction and support the development of relationships. We have also worked to ensure field trips are cost effective. We will have a combination of On and Off campus field trips this year. More specific information will be sent home for each grade level in the coming weeks.

However, we did want to provide families the opportunity to pay for field trips in advance. Please visit our Online School Payments website to make a payment for your child's field trips.

We have also provided the option for families to make a "Field Trip Donation" of any amount preferred. If you wish to help support another student, simply click the "Field Trip Donation" and add the additional amount you wish to donate. These funds will be used to help ensure ALL of our students have access to these great learning opportunities.

Military Connected Families - Please complete this survey!

In an effort to ensure that the unique needs of military-connected students are met, Session Law 2014-15 requires the North Carolina State Board of Education/North Carolina Department of Public Instruction to collect information on military-connected students. The goal is to help accommodate these students by providing them with support and consistency when their parents are deployed, when they are transitioning between schools, and at other pivotal times during their academic career.

This mandatory collection started in the 2015-16 school year. The Session Law 2014-15 that describes this requirement can be accessed at: .

To ensure compliance with Session Law 2014-15, please complete the following information. Please
complete survey and list each child.

Please complete the survey by November 11, 2022.

If you have any questions, please call our office at (919) 694-8970

Open-Mindedness - P2 Family Resources

This week our school community will be focusing on the character strength of Open-Mindedness. Open-mindedness means you like to consider new ideas and try new things. You examine things from all sides and don’t jump to conclusions.

Open-mindedness is the willingness to actively search for evidence that goes against one’s favored opinions, plans, or goals. Open-minded individuals are able to weigh all evidence fairly, when it is available. They see the other side and fight the tendency to have a bias for their own views. And, rather than favoring the socially dominant views, they give attention to those that are less dominant.

Open-minded individuals are often good listeners and called upon to provide a balanced viewpoint. Both listening and the ability to deliver reasonable and practical advice are marks of good friends and confidantes. This strength helps individuals form meaningful and lasting relationships.

To practice and encourage the character strength of open-mindedness with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2), where together you will watch a video, read a quote, and talk about the answers to three questions.

Have a wonderful week!
