Geography
Puerto Rico is located between the Caribbean sea and North Atlantic ocean. East of the Dominican Republic and west of the Virgin Islands.
Population
As of 2014, Puerto Rico has a population of 3.548 million people who reside there.
White- 75.8%, Black- 12.4%, Asian- 0.2%, Amerindian- 0.5%, and Mixed and other- 11.1%
Culture
There are many religions in Puerto Rico, the most common are Christianity and Catholics.
Christians- 97%, non-religious- 1.98%, spiritualists- .70%, Muslims- .13%, Hindu- .09%, Jewish- .07%, and Buddhist- .03%
Politics
Puerto Rico has a republican government. Instead of a president the country has a governor. The current governor is Javier Garcia Padilla. But Puerto Rico as a country is under U.S. sovereignty for over a century.
Tourism
There are an abundance of things to do within this paradise. Visit Old San Juan, they're famous for their shopping outlets and great food. There over 20 adventure and water parks and over 50 boat tours. Just don't forget to explore the tropical rain forests!
History
On November 19, 1493 Puerto Rico was discovered by Christopher Columbus on his second voyage to claim lands for the rulers of Spain, King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella. In 1493 the island was called Borinquen by the indians who lived there. Columbus named it San Juan Bautista.
