What is going on?
Writing: We will learn about how a “Focused Title” can help us hook a reader and improve the quality of a story. We will practice adding titles to our stories that give hints to what’s to come but don’t “give away the secrets” that lie within.
Spelling Words and Grammar: begin, close, door, girl, leave, open, slow, upon
This will be our final week of ending punctuation review. Students should be consistent in adding ending punctuation by this point in 2nd grade. Please continue to help with this when writing at home.
Reading: This week second graders will learn to distinguish the topic from the main idea of a fiction text.
Math: This week students will work on addition and subtraction using real-life situations. Students will be given a situation and will decide how to solve using addition or subtraction.
Science: The student is expected to distinguish between natural and manmade resources.

***Patsy Sommer Wall Of Champions***
Sommer PTA Healthy Lifestyles is sponsoring our very own STALLION WALL OF CHAMPIONS! Do we have any football or basketball players out there? Perhaps you like to hike or bike. Maybe a dance class or a pickup game of baseball at the park? We need photos of you BEING ACTIVE for our Wall Of Champions! All grades, and all faculty and staff are invited to participate. Photos need to be 5x7 or smaller, and turned in to the marked envelope in the gym during PE or before school starting this week. If you would like your photo returned, it must have your name, teacher, and grade on the back.
Sommer ES will celebrate EGGI week (education go get it) January 16-20, 2017. The theme is DREAM BIG. We are looking for parent volunteers to come and visit with classes about their job. We are only asking for 1-2 hours of your time.
