JCS ESSER Funds
Johnson City Schools' Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund documents are available for review through this link. At the bottom of the page, there is a link to a Google form where we ask for feedback from all of our stakeholders. Every six months we will use this feedback for our ESSER 3.0 Public Plan-Federal Relief Spending Addendum. Please feel free to review these documents and provide us with feedback.
Information From Finance & Insurance
Trust Co. Meeting (Classified Retirement Plan)
May 12th at 3:30 p.m. Shawn Weems with the Trust Company will be at the Central Office (100 E. Maple St.) to review how the Trust Company retirement plan works and answer questions anyone may have. This is a rescheduled meeting that was originally planned April 14th. The Trust Company is the 401a retirement plan for Full-Time Classified Staff hired on are after 7/1/2010. If you are interested in contributing more to your retirement or want to look at how your funds are invested you will want to attend. Johnson City Schools contributes 5% to the plan and will match up to an additional 3%. If you not sure which retirement plan you have, you can contact Leia Valley (valleyl@jcschools.org), Tina Foster (fostert@jcschools.org) or Jan Mominee (momineej@jcschools.org).
*If you think you may come to the meeting, please let Tina Foster know so we can prepare enough documents for attendees.
Full-Time Employees Life Insurance Open Enrollment period is May 16 – June 30
Open Enrollment for Hartford Life Insurance begins May 16 through June 30. Be on the lookout for an email from Finance with forms and instructions if you are interested in picking up or increasing supplemental life insurance on yourself and/or your dependents. Changes will be effective 9/1/2022.
JC Schools provides life insurance for all full-time employees equal to your annual salary. Once you have been employed full-time with JC Schools for more than 2 years, the amount of coverage provided is equal to 2 times your annual salary.

Summer Technology Academy
Our annual Technology Academy will be held on July 27 in-person at Science Hill High School. This year’s theme will be “Restore Your Connection”. If you would like to present at the Technology Academy, please fill out the form linked below. Registration for the event will be available soon! You don’t want to miss this big day of professional learning that will be in-person for the first time since Summer 2019!
IXL & Reflex Learning at Home
Students and parents are continued to take advantage of our newest platform for practice and reinforcement with learning standards. Buttons for both IXL Learning and Reflex Learning are found in each student’s SSO (Single Sign-On).

TLC Snapshot
Thank you all for helping continue to improve our professional learning program across the district with our new Learning Stream PD program. We have been able to process 3,854 registrations, 189 events, and 8,415 PDPs! There are certificates still waiting to be claimed, so check to be sure you have completed all of your evaluations.
TLC library materials are due back on May 13th in time for us to begin summer school checkouts. Our summer hours will continue to be Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. We hope you finish the school year strong and enjoy your summer!

Science Hill ranked 17th best high school in Tennessee
The U.S. News and World Report released their annual rankings of the top high schools in the country. Science Hill High School was ranked 17th in Tennessee – an improvement from their 20th ranking last year and tying their highest ranking ever from 2019. Science Hill also ranked 1,214 in the nation out of almost 18,000 high schools, an improvement from their 1,396 ranking a year ago.

Science Hill students want peers to remind teachers of their impact
Two students at Science Hill want their peers to remind their teachers how special they are to them. As a part of their Topper Summit class project, Science Hill senior Makenna Hoffman and junior Molly Wilgus created “Boxes of Faith”, which asks Science Hill seniors to write cards of appreciation to their current or former teachers.

Lake Ridge students use artwork to raise money for WC/JC Animal Shelter
A picture may be worth a thousand words, but students in the Lake Ridge STEAM class learned that their drawings can create change. The group used their talents to draw pictures of animals at the Washington County/Johnson City Animal Shelter, and then they used those photos to raise $1,000 to donate to the shelter.
A group of gleeful Lake Ridge Elementary students from kindergarten to fourth grade joined their STEAM teacher Ryan Glenn to present the check on Thursday, April 7, at the animal shelter.
