What a great week to be a STALLION!
Don't forget that we will have a early release date on Wednesday, September 26th. Students will come in the exact same time, but we will release @ 12:55 PM. Please make arrangements to pick up your Stallions at that time.
PS... We have a SPTO (Stallion Parent Teacher Organization) meeting on 9-25-2018 from 5-6 PM. Please come out and fellowship and brainstorm!

Educator of the Month Educator of the Month
- Our educator of the month is.....Ashley Lowe
- This is Ashley's 6th year in education and she teaches 8th grade Math here at NMS. She said that she was called to do something greater than herself and impact the lives of children that may not have as many opportunities offered to them. She loves to travel the world with her loved ones, listen to music (especially PRINCE), and go to CrossFit at 5 AM. Her favorite guilty pleasures are Oreos and Wendy's strawberry lemonade. She is also an Aggie! Gig' E, Ags!
Student of the Month
- Our student of the month is.... Emanuel Scott
- Emanuel is in our Rice Owls Pod. He says that she admires his mom and dad because they are good to him and buy him clothes and his favorite snacks (Jolly Ranchers). At school he admires Mr. Bradley and Mr. O'Keeffe because they are the best and they keep him out of trouble. His favorite class is Theater Arts because they do open scenes, and those are the best! A good book that he has read recently read was Black Panther, because it is so exciting. His favorite music is R&B music and he loves football and basketball.He said if a book were to be named about her life, it would be titled... "The E. Scott Story!
English Language Arts Department:
6th Grade
The students will continue analyzing poetry using the TPDASTT method. The students will also create thesis statements about the themes found in poems.
7th Grade
The students will be working to identify and analyze text structures in Expository Text.
8th Grade
- The students will create lyrical poems to demonstrate their understanding of poetic forms and the use of figurative language.

Science Department:
6th Grade
Students will continue their unit over Taxonomy as they identify basic characteristics and classification of living things.
7th Grade
Students will continue to learn about the structure and function of the organelles with a plant and animal cell. Exam 9/25 (Tuesday).
8th Grade
- Students will continue to discover the secrets of the periodic table. Exam 9/25 (Tuesday).
Social Studies Department:
U.S. History
We will be starting the causes leading to the American Revolution.
Texas History
Students will be learning about Spanish settlement system in New Spain.
World Cultures
We will be begin exploring the continent of North America. The main focus of the week will be geographic features.
STEM Corner
STEM students and teachers are off to a great start this school year!
So far the 8th graders have completed their first American History PBL, are in the middle of both Science and ELA PBL's. They have also completed one full cycle of app creating. Only 2 more to go! We are so proud of their hard work and look forward to what they can "engineer" in the future!
The 7th graders have completed both their first Texas History and Science PBL already for this school year and are in the middle of their Math and ELA PBL's. In the STEM Lab they are working on their first "Microbit Project" called the "Blinking Message". They even had time to attend and enjoy their first STEM-tastic Wednesday!
This week in STEM we are Learning:
8th
STEM ELA: Students will continue to work on their PBL " Better Together"
STEM 8th Grade Math: Students will be presenting their PBL on Tuesday over proportional relationships and slope.
STEM Lab: Students will be working on their "Build- a-body" App Project
STEM Students are working on their PBL " Got Game, Periodically". They will start presentations Thursday.
STEM Algebra 1: Students are working on Linear Functions.
STEM US History: Students will begin studying the causes of the American Revolution through various Enrichment activities.
7th
STEM Math: Students are working through their Carnival PBL with Probability. Please remind them to be focused and on task while in class so that they get the best learning experience.
STEM Lab: Students are working on their Blinking Message Project, which they will present on Friday.
STEM ELA: Students will continue to work on their PBL " A day in the life of a Teen"
STEM Texas History: Students are learning about European Exploration and Colonization. We are currently studying Spanish Explorers and settlements.
STEM Science: Next week we are taking our first snapshot assessment and presenting our PBL's to Generation Park.
Electives
Another GREAT week in the Elective Department!
Art
The students finished their first project. They've been working on their portfolio and design cover for the past two weeks. This week we will be introducing them to the elements of art. The first element will be line and the five basic types of lines.
CAP
The majority of CAP I (first-year) cadets have received their uniform. The few that need to receive a uniform will be asked to stay after school from 4:05 - 5:00. Buses will bring all students home.
The first Leadership Lock-In will take place on Friday (Oct 5, 2018). Students will stay after school on Friday from 4:05 - 11:30 pm. We will provide dinner to all participants. During this time, cadets will participate in several leadership and aerospace activities, receive additional instruction on uniform wear, and practice marching procedures. The permission slips will contain all information regarding when and where to pick up your student.
We encourage ALL students to take part in the Leadership Lock-In! Permission slips will go home on Monday. Please return the signed permission slip and $8 by Wednesday (Oct 3, 2018). We are not able to accept late submissions.
Dance
Thank you to those in the Dance Department and Dance Team who were in the KHS Homecoming parade this weeked. We are continuing to focus on Dance basics and technique.
The Dance classes will soon start on beginner Ballet! The Dance team is learning a field routine to perform at the King vs. Null football game in October.
Orchestra
Mrs. McNeil is working with all orchestra students on performance standards and behavior.
Performing orchestra students are sight-reading new music and several are preparing for region orchestra auditions.
Beginning orchestras are learning parts of the instruments and playing open D and A strings.
Robotics
This past week, Mr. Peace's robotics classes finished several lessons on the use of gears. Students designed gear assemblies and made the connection between gear ratios learned in robotics and ratios in math class.
The classes will learn how to program the use of medium motors to enable the robot to lift and lower objects similar to a fork lift.
Theater Department
This week, the theater department is working on stage combat in class. We are learning slaps, backhands, and side punches. Students will take their combat knowledge and put it into their duet scenes from Disney's Toy Story as Buzz Lightyear and Woody. Scenes will go for a major grade, fully memorized, on Thursday in class. Also, all cookie dough money is due this Wednesday September 19th!
Band
Students have turned in their fundraiser money. You will be notified of the delivery date as soon as they are set so that you can arrange for transportation.
Our fall concert is coming up on October 24! The Beginner Band Showcase will be at 6 PM, and the Concert, Symphonic, and Honor bands will play at 7.
Please be sure to pay any band fees that are due at this time.
Students need to make sure they have all their supplies.
Choir
If your child has not turned in their forms they are currently failing my class. Please turn in forms by Wednesday so I can update grades!!!
Parent meeting is at 6PM Tuesday in the Cafeteria. Please be there!!!
All choir fees are due on or before September 30th.
