Message from Mrs. Gray
Dear Salem Woods Families,
Next week, on Wednesday, April 26th, we honor our awesome secretaries, Mrs. Ligman and Mrs. Christensen, during Administrative Professionals Appreciation Week. You may have heard your child refer to them as Mrs. Karen and Mrs. Tasha. These two wonderful ladies come to school with patience and a friendly smile every day to help our students, families, and staff have a great day. Many of you have complimented our office staff for their excellent customer service and welcoming, personal approach. We are so grateful and lucky that Mrs. Ligman and Mrs. Christensen are here as part of our school family. If students would like to share a drawing, card, or letter with them, please bring it by the office next week. They would love to hear from our students!
Happy Earth Day, Saturday, April 22nd, Salem Woods Families!
Did you know that over 30% of the garbage we create in Snohomish County could have been recycled?
Reduce
Where you can, and when safe, walk more instead of using the car. This reduces the gas your parents will use!
Switch off electrical items, such as your lights, television and games console, when you are not using them – this will reduce the amount of energy you use!
Turn off the tap water when brushing your teeth – you’ll reduce the amount of clean water being wasted!
Reuse
When you are heading out to the store, always take your own bags. That way, you won’t use plastic bags from the store.
When something is broken, see if you can mend it or fix it instead of throwing it away!
And if it can’t be mended or fixed, see if you can find a new use for it!
Give unwanted items to charity!
And reuse scrap paper – remember you can always use both sides of a sheet of paper to draw on!
Recycle
By recycling, we are using materials from things you don’t need any more to make new products.
Instead of throwing away your food, you can turn it into really useful compost!
Always see if you can buy things made from recycled materials
Sort all your trash so that the glass, tin cans, plastic and paper can be recycled
Think about what other things can be recycled at your local recycling center, like batteries and ink cartridges
Use kitchen waste as compost in the garden.

Digital Learning News
April News from the art room
Students are working on some of their final projects for the year. Our final heritage month that we will focus on is AAPI, or Asian American and Pacific Islander. All of the heritage months offer an opportunity to learn about so many amazing artists and art styles, making it difficult to choose just one! For this time around, we are working on art that highlights the beauty of cherry blossoms and koi fish.
ART WALK is June 6th! Please join us for our first annual art walk on June 6th. The students have worked incredibly hard on their projects and this will be their time to shine as artists.
VOLUNTEERS needed for art walk prep. I will be sending out a Sign Up Genius to gain some volunteers to help prepare items for the art walk. Main volunteer needs: cutting bulletin board paper, mounting student art by classes, hanging student art. Volunteer times will vary, but I will begin having volunteer windows on Mondays, between 10-noon.
