Dear Mary Woodward Families,

Nancy Ross has been a fixture at our school for the past 18 years. She has filled a number of positions during her tenure at Mary Woodward. Nancy has worked as a secretary, a Reading Instructional Assistant, duty assistant, and crossing guard. You name it, Nancy has filled that role. Many of you know Nancy as the leader and champion of our school garden. Nancy's degree in horticulture and her passion for working with children has been a perfect fit to engage students in getting their hands dirty and learning about gardening. Countless students have spent time working in the Woodward Garden and under Nancy's watchful eye developed their own passion for connecting with nature.

Nancy announced her retirement from Mary Woodward this Spring. She has been fighting a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease and recently was diagnosed with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). Our Woodward community has been rallying around Nancy and she continues to be an inspiration to us all. Please keep Nancy in your thoughts and when you take a stroll through our lovely garden please know that Nancy's passion, hard work and energy was a driving force behind this wonderful sanctuary.

If you would like to send a card to Nancy please drop it off or mail it to our school office and we will make sure she receives it.

PM Session:

Class starts at 12:15 PM, dismissal at 3:05 PM

3. On Wednesdays, hybrid students do NOT come to building, but there is still morning meeting on Wednesday's. All classes, hybrid and online, have their morning meeting at 8:30 as usual with asynchronous work the rest of the day. Just like Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, attendance is taken on Wednesdays as well.

Attendance Information

MW Attendance Line

Attendance Email:

If your student is absent from school, it is your responsibility to call the Attendance Line, 503.431.4720 or email as early in the day as possible.

Because of the shortened school day, the automated attendance calls will start very early for each hybrid session. Automated calls go out for unexcused absences at 8:45 AM for the morning session and at 1:00 PM for the afternoon session. Our attendance secretary, Mrs. Debbie McRobert must hear from you early to excuse the absence before the robo calls start. Remember, Wednesdays will continue the same as before, with a morning meeting online, and asynchronous learning the rest of the day. Hybrid students do NOT come to the building on Wednesdays.

It's great if you email the teacher if your student is absent, but please email the office at as well. You can simply copy us on the email that you send to the teacher so you don't have to write two emails.

This is a good habit to start building whether your child is doing 100% online or hybrid instruction. Student safety is a priority at Mary Woodward, and it it essential that we hear from you whenever your child is absent from school.
