Birmingham Bombing
16th street baptist church
The Horrible Bombing
September 15th 1963, 4 african american girls were getting ready for their choir at Sixteenth Street Baptist Church before dynamite exploded underneath the church after being planted there by the Ku Klux Klan meaning to kill "black people". The 4 girls all died (Addie Mae Collins, Denise McNair, Carole Robertson, Cynthia Wesly) and lots were injured. Addie Mae Collins' sister Sarah Collins Rudolph survived and lived to tell of it, but lost one eye because of glass. She was in the hospital for a long time, but finally got out.
After the Horror Story
For 14 years no one was found guilty for this horrible bombing, but then someone opened up the case again and "Klansmen" was found guilty and put in jail where he died there, but nothing can change the awful past. There was also many other bombings after and before this one and Birmingham was nicknamed Bombingham because of them. No one will ever forget the horrible Birmingham Bombing at Sixteenth Street Baptist on September 15th 1963 at 10:22 everyone will remember the sweet girls that were killed during this dreadful time: Addie Mae Collins (14) Denise McNair (11) Carole Robertson(14) and Cynthia Wesly (14)
