Ms. Harris' Weekly Update
September 10th-14th
What's Going On This Week:
- Ms. Harris' Social Studies: This week we will start the week with our quick quiz on the Land Bridge Theory. On Tuesday we will start learning about different Native American groups who settled in North America.
- Ms. Uhlenhake/Mrs. Thurston's Math/ELA: In math, we will be taking a rounding quiz on Monday, reviewing on Tuesday, and our Place Value Unit Test will be on Wednesday. I encourage students to take their notebooks home every night. Thursday, we will begin our addition and subtraction unit. For ELA, we will continue reading “The Tiger Rising” as our class read aloud.
- Ms. Harris' GT Math/ELA: In math this week we will review place value and take our post test on Wednesday. Then we will start our unit on Addition and Subtraction. In ELA we will read our third and final Junior Great Book story in our unit on trust, called "Fresh". Students will take their open book test on this story on Thursday. We will continue to draft our narratives and students will start their Words their Way spelling homework. This week students will also take their STAR reading/math pretests which are a much shorter version of MAP. These will not be recorded in the grade book, but rather used for teacher lesson planning and student goal setting.

- Our wonderful room moms, Angeline Elliott, Tamaron Ganier, and Danielle DeBow are working on putting together our class directory. They should be letting you know soon when that is available.
- MAP Testing Dates for Fourth Grade are Reading Sept. 20th and Math Sept. 25th.
- Yearbook Pictures will be taken on Sept. 21st
- GT Parents: Starting this week, students will be assigned a Words Their Way day. That day will be the day they receive their spelling words from me, their assignments, and the day they will test. Each student will receive 20-24 words to sort and learn throughout their week. Then on their designated day, I will give them their spelling test (I will choose 10 of the 20 words to test them on) and provide them with their new list. If you are curious what day your child is testing on, please reference their spelling notebooks.
