3rd ANNUAL HELPING OUR PARKS EVENT!
HOP EVENT
The Wrangell Parks and Recreation department’s mission is to “support active lifestyles through a variety of health, wellness and wilderness opportunities”. We provide programs and activities to the community by way of our municipal parks and facilities. Our municipal green space boosts our local economy, enriches our quality of life and caters to the visitor population that comes to Wrangell.
Wrangell’s park infrastructure is aging and in need of revitalization. In 2017, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and Director developed a creative and collaborative approach to addressing our needs via the “Helping Our Parks” (HOP) project. This annual event is designed to help offset costs associated with park and trail projects, strengthen relationships with community advocates/partners and inspire a culture of stewardship in our municipal green space.
This spring we proudly hosted our 3rd annual HOP event on April 20th at Volunteer Park. The past two years’ events have demonstrated that the community of Wrangell cares deeply about the quality of their managed, easily accessible green spaces.
VOLUNTEERS!
Over 60 residents logged over 200 hours, working on alder & brush clearing, trail maintenance, volleyball net replacement, field & dug out repairs, along with general area clean up.
We appreciate the effort that locals put into this event! The love of our parks is shown through the hard work that takes place throughout the day!
DONATE TODAY!
This year, our goal is $10,000 which Parks and Recreation will match 25%. The funds will be tracked and applied directly to the project.
Please consider becoming one of our publicly recognized sponsors.

PADDLING EXCURSION AND BBQ POTLUCK!
Wrangell Parks and Recreation organized a Paddling Excursion and BBQ Potluck on
Saturday May 4th, honoring the 6th Annual gathering of paddlers in Wrangell. This community event launched us right into the adventure season, helping to cultivate
an environment for recreation enthusiasts to share
stories of adventure, paddle a few miles, eat delicious food, while creating a
welcoming setting for our island community.
The group paddled the shoreline from City Park to the Shoemaker Bay Recreation Site for a celebratory BBQ!
The group consisted of 13 paddlers, and 20 community members, who all rallied to celebrate togetherness, Spring in Southeast Alaska and outdoor recreation!
In the future, Wrangell Parks and Recreation will continue to collaborate with organizations and businesses in an effort to make outdoor recreation more accessible to everyone!
EMPLOYEE SWIM CHALLENGE!
During the month of May, we tossed out a 1-mile per week challenge, with a $40 Stik Cafe Coffee Card dangling as a door prize incentive!

SUMMER RECREATION PROGRAM!
Since 1976, the Summer Recreation Program has helped to provide a safe, structured environment for Wrangell's youth, where kids are encouraged to connect, play, create and develop solid social skills.
The program begins on June 3rd, and runs through the 2nd of August. We are currently working on the summer schedule, setting up the recreation space, and coordinating the staff training.
Our team is seeking community members with a special skill or talent, that would be willing to share their knowledge, enhancing the Summer Recreation Program and adding variety to the scheduled activities. Sharing the love for your craft and passing along skills to youth can be very rewarding. All Summer Recreation activities are overseen by Wrangell Parks & Recreations staff, who are charged with managing the youth participants.
The program registration will launch SOON.
