Climate/Weather
Ireland has a mild climate. It is warmed by the Gulf Stream and North Atlantic Drift. It Is very rainy especially on the Atlantic coast. The best time to visit Ireland is during summer.
Winters are moderate. Temperatures usually don't drop below freezing. However, higher elevations do receive snow.
Summer temperatures are mild. The east coast is the warmest place in Ireland. The highs are sometimes in the low 80s.

Culture
Languages: English and Irish (Gaelic or Gaeilge) are the official languages. English is the most commonly spoken and Irish is mainly spoken on the west coast.

January 1 - New Year's Day
St. Patrick's Day is celebrated with week long festivals in Ireland. Everyone goes to Mass on St. Patrick's Day. Then they get together with their families and feast on Irish dishes. Most commonly people eat pink bacon or roast chicken.
Christmas in Ireland lasts from Christmas Eve to January 6th which is the Feast of Epiphany. An old tradition is to let a candle burn in a person's largest window overnight. However, not many houses do that anymore. A day after Christmas is St. Stephen's Day and festivals occur. During the Feast of Epiphany, they eat round cake, turkey, spiced beef, and Christmas Pudding.

Current Information
Ireland uses the euro which converts to $1.12 in the United States. They have a democracy. It is run by a constitution and an elected president. The president runs for 7 years every term. Someone can only be the president for 2 terms. The current President is Michael D. Higgins.
Ireland's economy used to be based on agriculture but it transitioned to a trade based economy. Their main exports are machinery and equipment, computers, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, live animals, and animal products. Their trade partners include the US, UK, Belgium, Germany, France, and Spain. The GDP is $188.9 billion and the per capita is $39,547.

Directions
- Combine ingredients in crock pot with cabbage on top.
- Cut meat to fit, if necessary.
- Cover and cook on low for 10-12 hours; high 6-7 hours our auto 6-8 hours.
