Information about this event was sent home in your child's folder on Friday.

Laps for Learning!

Friday, September 16th officially kicks off the 2016 Laps for Learning school fundraiser! Laps for Learning is our school's primary fundraiser. The funds raised are used to purchase items such as educational supplies, playground equipment, water fountains and much more. All of the money raised stays here at Bransford. Mark your calendars for September 30th (race day) to come and cheer on students as they run laps. PreK - 2nd will run between 8:30 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. The remaining grade levels (3rd - 5th) will run between 9:30 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. Your child's take-home folder has a pledge form in it. Please review it for more information about when and how to turn in donations. Your support is appreciated. Thank you!

iStation is an educational online program used in GCISD as a tool and a resource to help students further develop their individual reading and math abilities. iStation is accessed on the iPads in the kindergarten classrooms. Each month, the very first time your child logs in to iStation, an online assessment is given to determine your child's educational need in regard to literacy and/or math skills at that moment in time. Headphones are used with iStation in the classroom environment.

Library Books

The students did an excellent job this week remembering to return their library books. We will be returning to see Ms. Boyd (our librarian) every week that the library is available this year. If your child's book is not returned on or before their library day, your child will be unable to check out a new book. Kindergarten students go to the library once a week as a class.

Library Dates and Times (subject to change):

Hendry: 9:00 a.m. Thursdays

Romo: 9:00 a.m. Wednesdays

Ryan: 8:00 a.m. Wednesdays

What Are We Learning?

  • We will continue to send home books that have been completed in class. Those are books that have been read and practiced in class. Please have your child read and explain them to you. Remind your child to point under each word as it's read. This is called one-to-one correspondence. Encourage your child to use the pictures to help him/her figure out what words make sense to tell the story. If necessary, encourage your child to start the word by making the first sound of the word.
  • The students recite the Bransford Pledge each morning: I will treat everyone the way I would like to be treated. No one should ever feel left out, unwanted or defeated. I will always be thoughtful. I will always be true. I will respect myself and also you! Ask your child what this pledge means to him/her and why it is important.
  • We have been practicing writing our numbers all the way to 10 and making sets to match those numbers. Mastery is achieved when accuracy is demonstrated on a consistent basis.
  • This week, students have been discussing the seasons with a focus on summer. Pictures have been drawn of a tree here on campus. Some classes even took a picture of the tree using the iPads. The students will be observing and recording data about their kindergarten tree throughout the school year.

Morning Arrivals

Thank you for always making sure your child arrives to school on time. We love to see our students' smiling faces first thing each morning! Please remember if your child arrives before the first bell at 7:30 they must go to the cafeteria where they will sit at the kindergarten table for students who arrive early. This way everyone will be supervised and then escorted to the kindergarten hall at the appropriate time. Meanwhile, each of the kindergarten teachers will continue to prepare for a great day of learning with their students. Thanks so much for your cooperation.
