The Hoot Owl

Notes from the principal

As we enter the holiday season, I want to encourage you to continue creating memories with your family. This year for Thanksgiving, our family gathering looked different from "normal" years. Thanks to the nice weather, we were able to move our Feast outside. None the less, we were determined to make the best of this situation and create a time of thankfulness and family. My hope is your family was able to do the same thing.

With the new buzz words like "where's your mask," "6 feet please," and "sanitize," our desire will be to take a break from them and forget the precautions. I encourage you to continue to be vigilant in your efforts to keep you and your family well. Our school has been fortunate to have a minimal positive cases and limited students quarantined. Our hope is to keep it that way so we encourage you and your family to continue to be careful over the holidays.

We look forward to seeing everyone back safe and well after Thanksgiving and again in January!

Just a few reminders as we enter into December:

*Car rider line entrance is between Saltgrass and the hotel. Right turn lane from our driveway is blocked so you will be forced to turn left and join at the end of the line.

*School starts promptly at 8:00 a.m. and students are tardy starting at 8:01 a.m. Please plan accordingly so that your child is here on time and ready for his/her day to start at 8:00 a.m.

*ILLNESS - if your child is sick, please do not send him/her to school. We are trying our best to keep all of our Owls well this year and your help in this effort would be appreciated.

*COVID - if your child has been exposed to Covid, they are required to quarantine for 14 days. Please contact our school nurse as soon as you know about exposure.

*Jackets - With the weather turning cooler, we are already starting to accumulate jackets without names in them. Please do your best to label your child's jackets so that if they are lost, they can be returned. We donate a number of jackets yearly that are left.

*Lunches - We are still not accepting lunch drop offs so please help your child remember to grab their lunch on the way out. If they forget it, they can eat a school lunch for that day as we do not want them going hungry. School breakfast and lunch are currently free for all students.

*Visitors - are being asked to stop at the door and ring the bell for help. If you must enter the building, you have to complete the Covid check-in on your phone or on a piece of paper we have before you can enter the foyer. Visitors are not allowed past the foyer at all.

*Transportation Changes - If you need to change your child's transportation home, we ask that you send a note to the child's teacher in the morning. Calling the front office is reserved for emergencies only.

If your child is currently participating virtually, our deadline to change placement to face to face is December 1. Please contact your child's teacher for more information or to make the switch.

Just a few reminders over the holidays -

As we enjoyed time for Thanksgiving and look forward to winter break, please remember that we want to encourage you and your family to enjoy time together making wonderful memories. However, we want to encourage you to be safe and protect your family from this virus.

If you or your child is exposed or tests positive over the holidays, please make sure and inform us. You can send an email to This email address will be monitored throughout the holidays and someone will follow up with you if there is a need.

Student council will be sponsoring a canned food drive from December 7 - 11. Non-perishable foods, (peanut butter, jelly, canned goods, etc) will be accepted. The food will be donated to Montgomery County Food Bank to help serve the families in our area.

Referral requests are now open for Conroe Independent School District Gifted and Talented program. Although the testing will not take place until late January for both remote and in-person platforms, referral requests are accepted at this time. Referral requests can be made by the parents and/or teachers. It is recommended that parents of 2nd grade students wait until CogAT scores have arrived before nominating their child because CogAT scores are part of the GT assessment. If you are interested in referring your child, you may want to discuss this with your child’s teacher at conferences. Referrals will be accepted through December 18. You may request a referral form from the front office or the Assistant Principal. You can also find the referral form and other GT information on the CISD GT homepage.

. Please help keep us all safe and well by sending your child to school with a facemask. All grades are ask to wear them in common areas like the bus, the hallway and the cafeteria. It is best if they keep them on the entire time while at school to prevent being quarantined should someone in their class get sick.

It is best if your child has their mask on before they walked into the building.

We have a few student ORE shirts and masks for sale. If you are interested, please reach out to Kathie Gensbigler. The shirts are $16.00 and the masks are $6.00.

Students will have holiday parties on Friday, December 18. Teachers will reach out to parents with details, however, with Covid on the rise, parents will be unable to attend the party. We will work to make this a fun day for students as we enter the winter break.

Students and staff are invited to wear their school appropriate pajamas to school on party day.

We are so excited to announce that we raised over $11,000 from RaiseCraze this year. We are already putting the money to good use buying technology programs for the school as well as a few treats for the staff. We appreciate all your hard work and look forward to another successful fundraiser in the spring.

Our outdoor classroom is finished and in good use. Please see our Facebook page for pictures of the completed structure and students enjoying learning outside.

If you find yourself wanting to help our school, below is a wish list of plants for the garden that families can purchase or donate money to PTO and they will purchase them. We also have a family work day every month. Watch for an invite to ensure you get the right date. We would love to have your family join us and help.

Students attending CISD schools are currently receiving free breakfast and lunch. This will continue until further notice.

For those who are virtual, feeding locations have changed for picking up lunches. Pick up will now be at Irons Junior High School off Hwy 242. Pick up dates are still Tuesday and Thursday.
