The Hoot Owl
DECEMBER
Notes from the principal
With the new buzz words like "where's your mask," "6 feet please," and "sanitize," our desire will be to take a break from them and forget the precautions. I encourage you to continue to be vigilant in your efforts to keep you and your family well. Our school has been fortunate to have a minimal positive cases and limited students quarantined. Our hope is to keep it that way so we encourage you and your family to continue to be careful over the holidays.
We look forward to seeing everyone back safe and well after Thanksgiving and again in January!
Reminders...
*Car rider line entrance is between Saltgrass and the hotel. Right turn lane from our driveway is blocked so you will be forced to turn left and join at the end of the line.
*School starts promptly at 8:00 a.m. and students are tardy starting at 8:01 a.m. Please plan accordingly so that your child is here on time and ready for his/her day to start at 8:00 a.m.
*ILLNESS - if your child is sick, please do not send him/her to school. We are trying our best to keep all of our Owls well this year and your help in this effort would be appreciated.
*COVID - if your child has been exposed to Covid, they are required to quarantine for 14 days. Please contact our school nurse as soon as you know about exposure.
*Jackets - With the weather turning cooler, we are already starting to accumulate jackets without names in them. Please do your best to label your child's jackets so that if they are lost, they can be returned. We donate a number of jackets yearly that are left.
*Lunches - We are still not accepting lunch drop offs so please help your child remember to grab their lunch on the way out. If they forget it, they can eat a school lunch for that day as we do not want them going hungry. School breakfast and lunch are currently free for all students.
*Visitors - are being asked to stop at the door and ring the bell for help. If you must enter the building, you have to complete the Covid check-in on your phone or on a piece of paper we have before you can enter the foyer. Visitors are not allowed past the foyer at all.
*Transportation Changes - If you need to change your child's transportation home, we ask that you send a note to the child's teacher in the morning. Calling the front office is reserved for emergencies only.
VIRTUAL STUDENT REMINDER
HOLIDAYS
As we enjoyed time for Thanksgiving and look forward to winter break, please remember that we want to encourage you and your family to enjoy time together making wonderful memories. However, we want to encourage you to be safe and protect your family from this virus.
If you or your child is exposed or tests positive over the holidays, please make sure and inform us. You can send an email to contactore@conroeisd.net. This email address will be monitored throughout the holidays and someone will follow up with you if there is a need.
STUDENT COUNCIL - FOOD DRIVE
GIFTED AND TALENTED NOMINATIONS - LAST CALL
Referral requests are now open for Conroe Independent School District Gifted and Talented program. Although the testing will not take place until late January for both remote and in-person platforms, referral requests are accepted at this time. Referral requests can be made by the parents and/or teachers. It is recommended that parents of 2nd grade students wait until CogAT scores have arrived before nominating their child because CogAT scores are part of the GT assessment. If you are interested in referring your child, you may want to discuss this with your child’s teacher at conferences. Referrals will be accepted through December 18. You may request a referral form from the front office or the Assistant Principal. You can also find the referral form and other GT information on the CISD GT homepage.
