Mrs. Webb's PreK Update
4th Marking Period 2022
Happy Spring, my lovely PreK families!
We are really in the home stretch now! Each day grows closer to the day your children will be official KINDERGARTENERS! And these days, we have been talking a lot about the way we need to behave, and the skills we will need to be successful in Kindergarten....SO EXCITING!
As we completed the Third Marking Period, we also completed the All Aboard: Buses, Boats, Planes, and Trains project by introducing letters Hh, Ii, Jj, Uu, and Ll. We had fun in our Fire Station Dramatic Play Center. In Math we used our five and ten frames to practice counting and subitizing. We sorted, compared, and learned about tally marks. We also continued to discuss our 2D shapes: triangle, circle, square, and rectangle.
Next, we introduced our We Are Builders: Planning and Building Together project. We loved our Construction Site Dramatic Play center, and building and using tools in the play doh and blocks centers. We worked with the letters Dd, Ww, Ee, Nn, Kk, and Qq. In Math, we compared sizes using same and different attributes. We continued counting, and we started bringing sets of objects together, and added their total number. At the end of this project, we all built and painted our very own birdhouse! I hope you all enjoy your construction for years to come!
We are finishing the final weeks of our Babies: Caring For Little Ones project, where we have read and practiced all the ways to care for a baby. We listened to the sounds babies use to communicate, and we have learned about what babies eat and play with and wear all over the globe. We learned that all babies love music, and heard some lullabyes from different cultures. We learned the last group of letters- Vv, Xx, Yy, and Zz, and began reviewing letter sounds by listening for them as beginning sounds in words. In Math, we revisited 2D shapes and we are about o use what we know to study 3D shapes- cone, cube, and cylinder. We have measured and compared by height and width, as well as longer, shorter, wider, and taller.
Our last project for the year will be Farm to Table, where we will explore where the vegetables and fruits we eat come from in the garden. We will read about the process of planting and caring for things that grow, and will get to do some planting ourselves! We will continue to review our letter sounds and rhymes. Most exciting of all- we are learning to write and illustrate sentences- Mrs. Webb is SO impressed!! In Math, we are counting to 100 and beyond, and continue to work towards our class goal of counting aloud to 20...we are so close!! We will use our five frame to discuss more/less/same. We will learn how to solve math problems that ask to find the 'total number'. We will practice matching and adding sets.
In the last weeks of Pre-K, we will enjoy this precious time together to have fun as we do a Countdown to Kindergarten (coming soon-we will begin the last week of April!!), with a special activity each day that begins with a letter of the alphabet- this is always so much fun for the kiddos- lots of giggles and excitement are in store for us as we finish our PreK year!! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU everyone for your ongoing support behind the scenes. I simply could not do this without all of you caring for your kiddos so well. They are a terrific bunch who are so enthusiastic and curious and excited to learn! It is such a pleasure to be their teacher, and I cannot WAIT to continue to see them grow and grow and grOW!
As always, if you ever have any questions for me, never ever hesitate to ask- send me an email or give school a call and they will connect you to me.
Lots of love and hugs to you,
Mrs. Webb xo
