This Week at Placerita 1.17.22 / Esta semana en Placerita 1.17.22
Good Evening Placerita Families...
Last week was our first week back and we were had a very busy week. Many of you have probably received an email saying that you have been in a class where there was a positive test for COVID. Even though our numbers were not that large, the new guidelines require us to notify every classroom where there has been someone to test positive. You can see all the District numbers on the District Dashboard here: (https://www.hartdistrict.org/apps/pages/covid-19dashboard)
The District has also provided a regularly updated presentation about all the changes to our COVID Guidelines and it can be found on the District Website here: https://www.hartdistrict.org/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=1808842&type=d&pREC_ID=2284249
Take a look there for all the latest information.
We will continue this week with emails about positive cases as well as close contacts. There are two types of emails that you could receive. One email is just a notification of a positive case in one of your student's classes. You are sent that email so that you may monitor your student in case they begin to have any symptoms that develop. The second email is one that lets you know if your student was a close contact and it gives instructions on what to do next. The main thing that may be needed as a result of a close contact is testing to determine if someone has become positive. Students may do that through some outside source as well as through our health office.
Beginning Tuesday (1/18) we will have Rapid Tests available at one per student that have been provided to us by the State of California. If your student needs to be tested before they return to school tomorrow and you were not able to get a test this weekend, we will have rapid tests ready for you at 7:15 in the morning like some of you have seen in a previous email. A parent will need to be present with a student to assist with the test. Otherwise our first time of releasing those testing kits at one per student will be from 11-12 AM on Tuesday Morning (1/18). These tests will be distributed at both times from the Dalbey Dr. side entrance of Tanner Hall right across from the flag pole in front of school.
Also, beginning Wednesday 1/19/22 we will all be able to order rapid tests from the Federal Government at https://www.covidtests.gov/.
This Wednesday and Thursday are Minimum Days for Professional Development meetings for Faculty. We will have periods 1,2 and 3 on Wednesday and 4,5 and 6 on Thursday. See the full schedule below. February 2 will also be a Districtwide minimum day for Professional Development for all schools.
Our ASB is planning a Talent Show and they are having sign-ups for auditions all this week. Tell your student that they should watch MMTV for more information. If interested they can see Mrs. Schultz in Room 13 for more information as well. This event may have to take place outside or if we are able to do it inside it will be with a limited audience. We will give you more information about this event as it becomes available.
That's it for tonight! Have a good week!
Mr. Turner

Sr. Turner

Greetings Placerita Families…
When we left back in December the case numbers in LA County were around 800-1000 cases per day and we are returning with cases over 30 times higher. As a result of that you probably already know that the LA County Department of Public Health has given us a different set of requirements to follow as we return to school. Superintendent Kuhlman sent an email out earlier this week describing several things that are changing and opportunities that are available. If you missed it I have included it below for you to read and review. There are also links to important county documents in that email so if you would like to see the guidelines that we are following there are links to those in his email shown below.
A very quick summary of the big differences for our return are these…
It is highly recommended that students wear a type of surgical mask or higher rated mask to block the smaller particles of the new COVID variant. Cloth masks are not the best for preventing spread of the smaller particles. Most of our students already wear a disposable surgical type mask so they can keep doing what they have been in the past. Masks are available on entry to school in the mornings. If you are wondering what type of mask this is, think disposable doctors’ paper face masks. This also applies to all adults on campus as well who will be required to wear either surgical or a higher rated mask.
Masks are now required at all times indoors and outdoors (where physical distancing is not feasible) unless eating or drinking. Many of our students have already been doing this since the beginning of the school year so they can just continue doing as they have been since the beginning of the year.
Please review Superintendent Kuhlman's email below for the detailed changes in isolation and quarantine days as LA County and the state have moved to adopt the CDC timelines of 5 days for many cases.
The county has plans for sending us at-home test kits that we will distribute one per student as requested by the student once we receive them. This is not a requirement for students but is being made available to assist with knowing if someone is positive so families can be protected. Around the District there are some performing groups that will have regular testing to maintain a higher level of safety.
We will remind students daily that we are in a different environment than what we were in last semester. Hopefully these new guidelines will only have to be in place for a short period and we can move back to less restrictive requirements.
Many of our parent meetings this past fall have continued as Zoom meetings and we will continue those types of meetings into this semester as well.
All our teachers will place assignments in Google Classroom for students that are on Independent Study during isolation or quarantine. If your student does not have access to a computer to view and work on assignments please let us know and we will get you a Chromebook that you can have to use during an isolation or quarantine period at home.
If your student has tested positive or has been exposed to someone at home who is positive and needs to quarantine please contact our attendance office and let them know. Our school number is 661-259-1551. You can also email our Attendance Office at ckolb@hartdistrict.org.
We do have a few important days on our Calendar in the next couple weeks.
January 17th is our Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday where there will be no school.
January 19th and 20th will be minimum days for Professional Development for staff.
Welcome to 2022!
Mr. Turner

Sr. Turner

Students are required to be wearing their IDs all the time they are at school.
There are several reasons that each student is required to wear their IDs during school each day. School Check-in each morning, identification for safety purposes and lunch purchases are a few of the reasons that students will need to have their personal IDs on them at all times just like last year. They will not be required during PE or during time that students are participating in activities where there would be a safety concern like in wood shop.

Hello Placerita Families! We have some very exciting and important news for our community.
The new Student Care Line for Placerita will be broadened to include mental health and wellness concerns. If you are struggling or know someone who is struggling, the Student Care Line will make early intervention possible, allowing for small problems to be handled before they become big problems.
If you are a student, parent, or community member with a concern that needs attention from an administrator at Placerita please text us here. You can send a text message to (661) 282-7522. All text messages received will be forwarded to our former Text-A-Tip line. We now have a new reporting system for our students and their families to use to share a concern about another student's well-being. This reporting system is called the Student Care Line.
Over the last several years, the William S. Hart Union High School District has placed an emphasis on student wellness. Knowing that a student who feels emotionally supported is more successful, the District set out to open Wellness Centers on each of our campuses, with the first of those opening in August of 2019. Now the District is looking to expand this effort even further by taking the existing Text-A-Tip line and re-branding it as the new Student Care Line, providing a more comprehensive function.
Text-A-Tip has been used by students, staff and families to report something out of the ordinary. With the goal being “If you see something, say something"; Text-A-Tip was there to report if someone was wanting to hurt themselves or others, or even if there was the possibility of someone committing a crime.
The new Student Care Line will be broadened to include mental health and wellness concerns. If you are struggling or know someone who is struggling, the Student Care Line will make early intervention possible, allowing for small problems to be handled before they become big problems. Cause for concern might be indicated by:
Trouble controlling emotions
Withdrawal from friends and usual activities
Feelings of rejection or solitude
Feeling constantly disrespected
Frequent loss of temper
Increased risk-taking behavior
Talk of suicide or loss of hope
Self-harm
Declining school performance
Students and families are at their best when their emotional well-being is supported. Please join us in our commitment to this effort by using our Student Care Line when you need it.
