Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Families,

Things have been very busy around here with our English Language Learners continuing to take the ELPA test and students working hard reading to make the 400/500 club.

I want to congratulate all of the students who became members of the 400/500 club. These students received their badges as well as a movie and a special treat. February members will be awarded a badge (if they haven’t already earned one) as well as an extra incentive. Those members who have a badge will be given a sticker to add to their badge. Congratulations to all those students who worked so hard to earn this honor.

AVID Corner

This month we are starting our opinion writing unit. We are incorporating several AVID strategies in this writing unit, including Philosophical Chairs. Students will be deciding if they like to play tag or four square at recess. Then they will be taking two column notes (another AVID strategy) and listing reasons for their opinion, as well as reasons why they did not choose the other game. We will split into our two sides and engage in academic language, trying to persuade the other side. You can encourage this kind of dialogue at home, too!

Morning Drop Off

Safety for all is out number one priority! Please remember that if you are dropping off your student in the morning, pull your vehicle all the way forward. Drop off should be less than one minute and the student should exit the vehicle on the curb side. If you feel you will need more that one minute to drop off your student, maybe for hugs goodbye, or helping with a coat or backpack, then please find a parking spot in the lot. This will keep the flow of traffic safe and steady. Thank you for your cooperation on this important matter.

Stayton Elementary School Website

Please familiarize yourself with our school website. It has all of the information you should need regarding our school. Here you can find monthly lunch menus, school events, attendance policies, staff email addresses, district calendar and much more!

Pre-registration for 2019-20

Next month your child will be bringing home their pre-registration forms for enrollment for next year. It is very important that you look through the entire packet and make any necessary changes to address, phone numbers, contacts who you give permission to pick up your student from school. Remember that if we do not receive your pre-registration form, your child is not officially registered for school next year.

Spring Conferences

Spring conferences are right around the corner. They are scheduled for April 8th - 11th. You will receive more information and a reserved conference time for you and your student before Spring break. Be looking in your child's Wednesday Folder.
