This month our classroom counseling lessons in grades K-5 will focus on skills of resiliency, coping skills and how to get help for oneself and/or a friend. These lessons are intended to educate students on feelings of stress, worry, sadness, how to cope with such feelings, and how to ask for help if needed. Please talk with your child about these feelings, and reinforce appropriate coping strategies such as talking with a trusted adult, exercising, or doing an activity they enjoy.
Please contact JeAnna Karloff at jmkarloff@mpsomaha.org with any questions.

NOTE FROM MRS. LOGAN
Following directions is a demand we all face throughout our days in all environments . Some directions, at some times, are easier to follow than others. Waiting in a long line can feel fine, if you aren't running late for an appointment. Driving the speed limit is often easy, unless you're late for work. Let's face it following directions can be tough at times, even as adults.
This week Hollling students have been focusing on our school expectation of Have Respect. We have been zooming in on the idea of following directions. Like you and I, there are times during the school day when following an adult direction can seem easy, like line up for recess. There are times directions are not so preferable. We teach students a three step process to help them be successful at direction following.
When a direction is given:
1. Look the adult in the eye . 2. Say ok . 3. Do it
These three steps seem simple and easy, but let's face it not all directions are easy to follow at all times. We know that when children follow adult directions at school, home, and on the athletic field that they are more successful at Reaching Up and Grabbing their Greatness.
