Digital Citizenship

Now that many of our students are part of online community, whether it is Google, Seesaw or something else, we need to take time to discuss digital citizenship with them. While this may start in the form of a single lesson, the discussion should continue over the course of the year. There will be several teachable moments as students are using our digital resources, so please take advantage of those. To start the conversation, I have a Breakout activity for grades 3-5 and a Kahoot activity for K-2. If you are interested, let me know. BrainPop also has several movies on digital citizenship. Click here to view some great resources from VBCPS. Be sure to click on the left side (Be social. Be smart. Be safe.) for some in-depth information and resources on each topic.

G Suite for Education

Just as you get used to hearing the phrase "GAfE," Google rebrands itself! It is now known as G Suite for Education. G Suite is still the same educational solutions that you use every day such as Drive, Docs, Slides, etc.

In addition to the name change, Google has introduced a new feature which many will find awesome! If you have been a frequent user of Google Sheets in the past, you may be familiar with the Explore Tool. Using Explore helps you create your presentation faster and easier. Now, Google has added Explore to Docs and Sheets as well! It makes researching possible from within the Doc itself! Efficiency at its finest!

What's Going On?

  • Sue & Julie (MBES) I am so glad we were able to work with your kids to get them logged in several times.
  • Mary, Dana, and Stephanie (WWES) I have been so impressed with how your 1st graders are logging in so quickly!
  • Haylie (MBES) I loved the way you had "log into Google Classroom" as part of one your tasks! What a great way to have them answer your NASA question and get them used to logging on!
  • Dana (WWES) I love that your students were using Dance Mat Typing during small group today! Keyboarding will help students with future assignments this year!
  • Kelly (WWES) Your log in visual for students is genius! Having a dry erase board above your desktops with the username and password helps the students know what to type without always having to ask for help!
