The Pamlico Sound
10.3 estuary report
Information
The Pamlico Sound is the largest estuary in North Carolina located at the Outer Banks. Estuaries are important because they provide goods and services to the people that live around it which is also a main source of the economy there. Eagles, fish, gulls, sea turtles and sharks can be found around this estuaries. Erosion and sediment and toxic materials being spilled into the sound are the main reasons that the sound has been threatened. A reason estuaries are important is because they are breeding grounds for most sea creatures. Lake Mattamuskeet, East Lake, and the West Bay all feed into this sound.
