a note from the director

Welcome back from the Holiday Break! We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! It was a much-needed and welcomed break from our hectic fall schedule!

Speaking of hectic! We immediately jump back into a very busy week! This is the week our students started preparing for back in July and is the first step in the Texas All-State Band process! That’s right! It is the TMEA Region 18 District/Region Band Auditions. NOT ALL Jaguar Band students will audition. Wind Ensemble and SLTs are required to audition. There are select students from the other ensembles who will be auditioning, as well. The students who are auditioning know who they are. Auditions will be held at Akins High School on Thursday and Saturday, and a detailed itinerary will be distributed early this week with estimated departure and return times. Here is a list of which instruments will be auditioning on each day.

THURSDAY: Oboe, English Horn, Bassoon, Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, Bari Sax, Bass Clarinet, French Horn, Euphonium, Tuba.

SATURDAY: Flute, Piccolo, Bb Clarinet, Trumpet, Bass Trombone, Tenor Trombone, Percussion.

The other item on the agenda for this week is the Budafest Parade on Saturday evening! The parade is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. Once we receive information from Buda City Council concerning staging time, if our band trailer will be allowed to be a part of the parade and where the parade ends in regards to our marching band, we will send it out ASAP! Winds and percussion will be wearing our Jaguar Marching Band Uniforms (not YPG)! For guard members that means tunics, black leggings, sneakers, and gray jackets. Please make sure that every part of your uniform is in the uniform bag when it is turned in after the parade and that all personal items are removed from the bag. Uniforms will be washed and placed in inventory until next fall! Also, wind and percussion students may put battery-powered lights on their instruments and guard can wear necklaces and/or hats with battery-powered lights if they would like!

Sousaphones, mellophones, marching bass clarinets, and marching baritone players!! Please note that Monday, following the Budafest Parade we will be turning in all marching instruments! Please make sure that you have personal items out of your case and that it is ready to check in Monday, December 6.

Winter Guard season has officially started!! Mr. Washington and Mr. Duffy have already been in communication with those students concerning rehearsal schedules. Additionally, an email was sent earlier today with significantly more information concerning this exciting group! However, if you are a student interested in being a part of Winter Guard and have not already begun, please see Mr. Washington or Mr. Duffy for information.

Again, welcome back, and let’s have an incredible week!
