"Education is what survives when what has been learned has been forgotten." - B.F. Skinner
With Appreciation:
- Kudos to all of our classified, and particularly our certificated staff, for their work to make our Open House a success! Bravo!
- Ceci has been our testing guru this spring - thanks to her for keeping us moving, and to our grade 3, 4 and 5 teachers for motivating their students and encouraging them to do their best! We are almost done...and now grades K-2 are knee deep in iReady assessments!
- Wow - our volunteer breakfast was a big hit! Thanks to our Sunshine Committee, Shelly, Rob, Arty, our office team & Irma for their role in making it wonderful! Thanks to all the teachers who popped in to give thanks to their volunteers!
BRAVO
- Darren Coleman - 2018-19 LCES Teacher Who Makes a Difference

Field Trip Reminders
- Field Trip Food Request forms are due 14 days before your field trip
- Please work with Rosa to coordinate the picking up of lunches before you head out
- Please stop in the office before you head out on a field trip to be sure you have all medical paperwork, and to ensure any meds have been picked up
- Field trip forms are linked in our Staff Portal under "Filing Cabinet" > "Helpful Info & Policy Info" > alpha under F
- Realization set in this week that the bus pricing has changed - it's now $36/hour and $3/mile. There is also a $40 health fee/field trip that is paid even if you are not taking a nurse with you. You can consult prior field trip forms to estimate the cost, or reach out to Mike Adell (madell@wpusd.org) for an estimate on cost so you charge students appropriately.
Class of 2019 LHS Zebras coming to LCES to celebrate
About 60 students from the LHS class of 2019 will be visiting LCE on Wed., 5/29 from 8:55-9:30 am. We'll keep it similar to what we've done the last few years:
- please encourage your students to make signs
- please encourage your students to wear blue/yellow/white/LCE/zebra gear
- we'll make welcome tunnel from the lights on the front patio into the campus ending at the tile wall; we'll have the sound system set up by the tile wall. Please be in place no later than 8:50 am.
- we'll have a brief welcome and then we'll dismiss classes to their classrooms; grads will follow for a short visit in each classroom - they can read a story, answer questions your class has, etc... they need to be heading back to the bus by 9:20 am. I know that the grads love to find their old teachers - I may give them a little map so they know where to find you for a quick hug and hello! :)
Report Card & End of Tri Awards Details!
- Science & Music Grades - tentatively, you should plan to have them by Wed., 5/29.

School Supplies for 2019-20
Early this week, you'll get color fliers re. the online order option and a second pink flier with the supplies requested for TK-5. Please put both of these in your report card folders or your end of the year materials that will be seen by families. Here is the flier re. online ordering. Here is the TK-5 supply list if families prefer to shop on their own.
These docs are available in our public calendar, too.
Do you have a district iPad?
We need to collect them in one location so the district can update them this summer. Note that updating them will mean that they are wiped so any files or pictures saved on the device need to be backed up in some way. They should be able to do so on their computers and load them to their google drive or any other cloud app.
Please put blue tape (or something similar) on your device with your name & classroom # written on it and bring them to the office before you check out for the year. We'll get them back to you in August.
If you need help with backing up files, do let Annie or Kristen know.
Quick Reminders
- Summer PD offerings are available to review & sign up for online. My understanding is that the teacher daily rate will be offered. Click here to view the spreadsheet.
- If you plan to order items with 2019-20 funds, you can turn in POs before school is out and we'll process them in late July/early August!
- The district nurse has indicated that students can bring their own sunscreen & chapstick to school. Three rules with the sunscreen - no aerosols, they have to be able to apply it without help from staff/peers, and students cannot share their sunscreen with peers. I sent out a reminder again that students CANNOT bring OTC or prescription allergy (or other meds) to school. If you see this happening, please let Jen know ASAP so we can follow up with the family
New Updates to our Staff Portal
All staff can access our staff portal by clicking on the "Staff Portal" link on our LCES website. Recent updates:
- updated directions on how to assign iReady assessments; under "iReady - how to assign..."
- Kristen added awesome resources to the Safety tab...check in out!
PBIS Update
New ticket pads are in! Here's a list of what we are focusing on for the rest of the school year. Here is a summary for you:
May 13-June 7: Be Safe
Next year, the district will be providing a program called EduClimber to all elementary school sites. This is a function of Illuminate and will take data from iReady, Illuminate assessments, SSTs, 504s, and more and put it all in one database. We can't wait!
Growth Mindset, AVID, and Character Development Corner
LCES Library of Class Readalouds in the staff room
- we'll be building up bookshelf that you can borrow from - we'll add another book each week or so
- check out this spreadsheet - let's keep it up to date with the library options and resources you can access that support the readaloud/book use in class.
- you are encouraged to borrow books to share with your class. Feel free to add your own books and resources too! Be sure to return items promptly so others can use them.
- This week, we feature:
iReady data Checkin
