Principal's Message

Dear Terra Linda Families,

We are approaching Thanksgiving week, and this is a great time of year to think about gratitude. Gratitude is defined as the quality of being thankful as well as readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness. I am thankful to be part of this amazing school and community. Every student, family, and staff member brings opportunities for enrichment and joy into our lives, and I am thankful for every one of you! You and your students are encouraged to take time to share your gratitude with your loved ones, too!

Thank you for supporting our Food Drive last week and this week. We are almost to our goal of 2100 items! All food collected will be distributed to Terra Linda families.

With appreciation,

Christy

Interested in Donating to a Local Toy Drive? (Repeat)

Sunset Presbyterian Church sponsors a Food & Toy program that supports students and families from our community, including Beaverton schools. Terra Linda families are also supported by this program. If you would like to donate to their Toy Drive, there are four options:

  1. Bring your toy donation to their Toy Drive on Sunday, December 5th between 11:30 – 1:30pm. Once at Sunset Church, you will be directed to their drop-off location. Staff will unload your unwrapped donation while remaining socially distant and safe.
  2. Shop online from one of their wish lists or registries and it will be delivered directly to the church toy team. Amazon or Target
  3. Purchase a $25 Gift Card from Amazon, Fred Meyer or Target and deliver to the church (if you deliver to Terra Linda, we are happy to give the gift cards to the church for you)
  4. Donate financially online to Food & Toy here: https://pushpay.com/g/sunsetpres Choosing the Food and Toy option from the Fund drop down.

Weekly COVID Screening Program (Repeat)

Due to all of the days off of school over the next few weeks, we are taking a break from the screening program. We will send home Saliva Sample kits on Friday, December 3 and Friday, December 10 with collection each Monday afterwards. We only run the program when we have school on a Friday and the following Monday.

If you would like to enroll, fill in the two forms linked below.

Clothing Donations Needed (Repeat)

Sometimes students need a change of clothes during the school day, so we provide this to students in the office. However, we have given away most of our extra clothing.

We are in urgent need of these new (or gently used) items:

  • Girls leggings size extra-small, small, medium, and large
  • Boys sweat pants size extra-small, small, medium, and large

Thank you very much for your generosity!

Invitation to "Girls Who Code" (Repeat)

Iris Chang and Menaka Wijeratne, Sunset High School juniors, are Co-Presidents of the "Girls Who Code" Chapter at Sunset High School. They asked that we share the following message with students who will attend Sunset High School someday:

"We strive to close the Technology gender gap, and anybody can be a part of this change. We would love any interested students from your school to join our Monday weekly Zoom meetings from 4-5 PM. Through these meetings, we hope to facilitate a positive environment for your students to learn about technology. The curriculum includes lessons on coding, computers, and creative thinking."

COVID 19 Response for Students (Repeat)

Please take a look at the flowchart below showing the process that our school nurses and principals follow to determine who will need to be isolated or quarantined. As you can see, it's a very complex process! This is a repeat of information sent out by Community Involvement on Friday, but we wanted to be sure you read through it. Too Sick for School? (Repeat)

Parents/guardians should perform a daily health evaluation before sending students to school. If a student is exhibiting a fever, cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, a new loss of taste or smell or any of the symptoms on our Too Sick for School - Keep Ill Students Out of School flyer, the student should stay home.

For more information, you can also visit the Washington County Health & Human Services Department School Exclusion webpage for guidance, rules and communicable disease facts.

Below are some guidelines to help you make the decision about when to keep your child home from school. The recommendations are based on the guidelines provided by the Communicable Disease Program of the Washington County Department of Health and Human Services. They were developed to help prevent the spread of potentially contagious disease.

  • Fever: With fever greater than 100.4° F; student may return when fever-free for 24 hours (WITHOUT use of fever-reducing medicine).
  • Vomiting/Diarrhea: Any unexplained vomiting episode. May return 48 hours after last episode. Diarrhea equals three or more unexplained episodes of watery or loose stools in 24 hours OR sudden onset of loose stools. May return 48 hours after last episode.
  • Cough: Serious, sustained coughing, shortness of breath, or difficulty breathing.
  • Rash: Any new rash accompanied by a fever. May return after rash goes away or clearance given by a health care provider.
  • Skin Lesions/Sores: Drainage from a sore that cannot be contained within a bandage OR sores are increasing in size OR new sores are developing day-to-day.
  • Other: Symptoms that prevent the student from active participation in usual school activities OR student is requiring more care than school can safely provide.

Home is the best place for a child who is ill. If your child is sick with a diagnosed communicable disease, please notify the school as soon as possible. This notification will greatly assist others who, due to medical reasons and/or treatments, have weakened immune systems and may require immediate and specialized care.
