Wiconisco Creek Trout Stocking!
March 15 and May 1, 2013
What's goin' on!?!
On Friday, March 15 and May 1, 2013, students in the Upper Dauphin Area High School Conservation Club will assist the PA Fish and Boat Commission in float stocking several local stretches of the Wiconisco Creek. The stocking stretch reaches from the Route 225 bridge in Elizabethville downstream to the Shiffer Mill Bridge near Rife, PA. Students will travel by canoe, dispersing trout evenly over their stocking stretches, but fish will also be bucketed at the bridges and other heavily fished areas. The stocking trucks will arrive at 11:00 am from Bellefonte Fish hatchery. On March 15, brook and brown trout will be stocked. On May 1, brown and rainbow trout will be stocked.

Schedule (Tentative)
8:00 am: Meet in Mr. Ayers room to receive important instructions for the day
8-10 am: Students may get lunch at this time, but should be fast and report directly back to their starting locations. The shuttle should be set up, and students can eat, gather their gear, put waders/life-jackets on, take their canoes and floats to the creek, and stay together at the put-in until the stock trucks come!!! Do not leave your location after 9:30 am!!
11 am: The stocking trucks are scheduled to arrive! The trucks will arrive first to the downstream locations, and 30 minutes to an hour later at the most upstream location, but students should be completely prepared by 11!!
Stocking Truck arrival to Float Finish: When the truck arrives, students should be prepared to bucket fish down to their floats. Once the floats are full, students will float with canoe and float, evenly distributing fish over their stocking stretch. WEAR A LIFE-JACKET, and make sure to judge the distance so you have at least a few fish as you reach your take out. Start off slow when stocking, it's better to have too many nearing the end!
Float Finish to 2:30: Take canoe and float boxes up to the shuttle parking areas. Dry off and change as necessary, but it is imperative that students return to the office lobby by 2:35 to return their life-jackets and check in!
