Facilities Community Survey
Dear Parents/Guardians/Community Members,
As we’re preparing to wrap up the fall semester, we’re also busy planning for the future of Gainesville ISD. As you may know, our district recently formed a Facility Steering Committee (made up of local community members and GISD staff) to study our facility conditions and needs. Committee members are evaluating the district’s enrollment projections, a comprehensive building assessment and financial information in preparation of making a facility recommendation to the Board of Trustees.
To assist the Facility Steering Committee in gathering input from a variety of perspectives, we’ve partnered with an independent polling firm to conduct a facility survey. Your perspective as a parent is very important, and I hope you’ll take a few minutes to participate in this survey. All participation is completely anonymous. GISD staff-please only complete the survey that was sent directly from Dr. Stewart to prevent duplication.
To take the survey, visit www.gainesvilleisd.org/facilitiessurvey and submit your responses by Sunday, December 29. Thank you in advance for your participation!
Sincerely,
DesMontes Stewart, Ed.D.
Superintendent
Facilities Steering Committee Meeting
On December 18th, the 3rd Facilities Steering Committee meeting was held at Edison. Elementary. Topics presented for discussion included an overview of school finance with the GISD Director of Finance Alyce Greer followed by a presentation by Brian Grubbs with SAMCO Capital Markets. Grubbs went into detail regarding GISD bond history, overall bond trends, and possible tax scenarios for homeowners within GISD. To view all or part of the presentation and to view the notes from the committee discussion, please click the links below.
Super Santas!
Being the awesome students they are, they decided they wanted to do something for the students at Edison. Together, they organized a fundraiser “snack shack” to raise funds to buy gifts for the students. Their goal was to be able to give a present to each of the 1st grade students. In addition to their own fundraising, the group received larger donations to help fund the project. Since they had more than enough to give gifts to the 260 first graders, they decided to also give a gift to every child at Head Start. The surprise gift visit was on Thursday and all the kids big and small had a great time!
Leopard Pride Awards
The December Students of the Month received the Leopard Pride award at the Board of Trustees meeting on Monday, December 16th. The students were nominated by their teachers for their leadership, compassion for others, making good choices, and for setting a good example for their classmates.

Construction update
Baseball and softball field updates as of 12/19! The softball field estimated completion date is January 4th. The baseball field estimated completion date is January 15th. After that, full attention will be given to the soil stabilization at the site of the new tennis courts.
GISD takes pride in the consistent frugal use of taxpayer dollars, ensuring a comfortable fund balance which in turn allow the district to use fund balance for projects such as these without asking for a tax increase.
