FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents

On 1 November it is the feast of All Saints whereby we honour all of our saints and the great inspiration they are for us all. On Friday afternoon we will celebrate a whole school mass in honour of All Saints. On the 2 November is the feast of All Souls whereby we pray for all those who have passed away and hold their memories close to our hearts.

Congratulations to our Year Three children as they celebrated the Sacrament of Penance on Wednesday evening at Our Lady of the Missions Church. It was a beautiful celebration and I am so proud of the way the children were so respectful and reverent whilst receiving the sacrament. It was so lovely to see many family members going to Reconciliation as well. Thank you to the Year Three teachers Mrs Bastow and Mrs Holness for preparing the children so beautifully and to Father Cyprian and all the priests who came along to assist. It is important that we remind our children that this is not a ‘one off’ sacrament and we need to encourage them to receive this sacrament on a regular basis so that they can deepen their relationship with Jesus and ask him to help them make good choices in their daily lives.

On Wednesday 11 November we will be having a Prayer Service for Remembrance Day. Over one hundred years ago on 11 November 1918, four years of conflict came to an end. Almost 62,000 Australians died fighting for our freedom and in service of our nation. Please keep all those who have fought or died serving our country, in your prayers. LEST WE FORGET

On Friday we celebrate World Teachers Day. Each and every one of our staff members are ‘teachers’ as we all teach, nurture, encourage and support the children at PCPS in all that we do whether we are in the classroom, out on the sporting field or in the office. I thank our outstanding staff for all their commitment, dedication, patience, sense of humour and positivity. It is a pleasure and privilege working with them all and we are truly blessed to have our children in their care.

Congratulations to our Year Four teachers Mrs Barry and Mrs Woodall who have been recognised for their work in creating the PCPS 2019 Aboriginal People’s Exhibition. They were awarded with a runners up Certificate of Merit at this year’s CEWA Quality Catholic Education Awards. Sharon Davis (CEWA Aboriginal Education Team Leader 2019) stated, “Today was the best practice in embedding Aboriginal perspectives across the curriculum, that I have seen since I started at CEWA in 2015.” Outstanding work ladies! Our 2020 Exhibition has expanded to include all year levels across the school from Pre-Kindy to Year 6, as they explore and come to new understandings.

Big picture

Over the last Term students at Padbury Catholic Primary School have been immersed in integrated learning driven by the central idea of exploring the cultures and voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and the truth of our shared history. This learning will culminate in Djooroobidiny, an interactive exhibition celebrating our learning in a whole school Exhibition to be held on Friday 6 November. Invitations for parents to join us for this Exhibition have already been sent home and we would love for you to join us along with the Education Ministers representative, Members of Parliament, CEWA staff and specially invited guests with Aboriginal heritage.

A live webinar will be held on 4 November 1.30-2.30pm to discuss the cultural capability of educators. The webinar panel will consist of Sharon Davis (CEWA), Education Director (AIATSIS), Carly Jiya (AITSL), Alana Raymond (Reconciliation Australia), Zana Bowen (World Vision) and our own Year Four Mrs Deb Barry. Congratulations Mrs Barry on being specially selected! Hear directly from those working to ensure the voices, stories and perspectives of First Nations peoples are authentically embedded within the curriculum. If you are about to purchase, or will be purchasing shool shoes over the coming holidays, please check the school website - https://www.padcath.wa.edu.au/school-uniform - for examples of the type of academic school shoes (and possible places to purchase) suitable for Padbury Catholic Primary School.

TECH TIPS!

This Week’s focus: 'Among Us'

As I teach in Year 4 and visit other year level classrooms, students often talk to me about what they are doing online, in particular what games they are playing. Recently students have been talking a lot to me about a new game they are playing called 'Among Us' which has exploded globally during Covid-19 lockdowns around the world.

For this week's Tech Tip I thought it might be a good idea to share an article aimed at parents which explains a little bit about 'Among Us'. I hope you find the article useful, as many of our PCPS students are playing this game currently.
