Principal's Message

Memorial Day has long been the "unofficial" kick-off to summer. The actual first day of summer is June 20th, 2021.

Memorial Day is a time when we pause and honor those who have given their lives in the service of our country, while protecting us and keeping us safe. I am always humbled by those that are willing to serve, as we have an all volunteer armed forces. I am so grateful for these brave men and women.

Last weekend, Kathy and I attended a 50th wedding anniversary celebration for her cousin and husband. In 1968, her cousin was dating a guy from Renton, WA. She was very serious about. him. His name was Dan. Dan was drafted and sent to fight in Vietnam. Kathy, as a 10 year old kid, corresponded with him, sending him letters and cookies. Dan in turn, sent letters back to her along with a traditional Vietnamese Kimono and piggy bank. Sadly, Dan was killed in action on January 18th, 1969. Kathy still has the items and letters Dan sent to her. Kathy's cousin went on to meet a wonderful man, and it was a great celebration last weekend of their 50th wedding anniversary.

If Kathy and I would have had a boy, we planned to name him Daniel in honor of his service, sacrifice and the time he took to stay in touch with his girlfriend's little cousin Kathy.

My hope is that tomorrow we can take some time to reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day and give thanks to all those who gave everything for our country. Take care.

Jeff

SCSD Family Communication, May 28th, 2021

Good Afternoon, Families and Staff,

With the Memorial Day holiday this weekend, it signals the final days of school. Some of our elementary schools will be having in-person and virtual field days. Our middle schools have plans for students moving from 8th grade to high school, and of course, our high schools are planning their graduations.

The close of school also means that we need to collect all chromebooks and hotspots that have been distributed. We need to collect them all to make repairs and updates so that they will be ready to deploy again next fall. Each school has procedures set up to collect this equipment and will be communicating specifics to families.

The final in-person day of school for the BB cohorts will be June 11. The final in-person day for the AA cohorts will be June 15. The last day of school for all students is June 15. June 15 is a two hour school day so secondary students will be dismissed at 9:40AM and elementary students will be dismissed at 11:00AM.

Have a safe Memorial Day Weekend.
