Principal's Message

Dear Lafayette Community,

This morning we waved goodbye to our 5th graders heading to outdoor education. All of our end of the year trips and celebrations have been amazing this year. The staff and students surprised SJ last week with a farewell assembly. Stephanie was surprised and overwhelmed by the tribute! Please enjoy the slides LINK and video from assembly LINK.

Ms. Weir and the current administration team came together to make a fun video with the students last week. Please enjoy LINK.

Special thanks to Ms. Mischke, parent volunteers and Angevine volunteers on Friday for Field Day. Although it was a bit wet, students, staff and our community had a blast.

Stay tuned for more communication from your administration and office team in May and June about the 23-24 school year.

We wish everyone a happy and healthy summer!

Go Cougars!

Sincerely,

Stephanie Jackman, Principal & Robin Stone, Dean of Students

Colfax Marathon

The Lafayette Elementary Ladies Colfax Marathon relay team did it! They placed 1st in the women's public schools division and placed 5th in the public schools division overall. This was their 4th win in a row!! These ladies know how to rock the Colfax Marathon Relay! Each school year they win up to $2,000 dollars that goes directly to our school budget for a variety of awesome opportunities. It was wonderful to see 3 other relay teams out there running to support our school and PTO.

Library End of the Year

All library books were due last Friday. So if you have overdue library books, please return them to the library as soon as possible. Overdue book notices will go home the week of May 19. If a book is lost, a $5 donation fee is requested to help cover the cost of replacement. Donations fees can be paid via Revtrak (specify student’s name and email Mrs. Arment to let her know which book was lost and the fee was paid on Revtrak) or by sending in cash or check payable to Lafayette Elementary (write "Library Book Fee" and your child's name on checks, please add note telling which book it is for). If fees are a financial hardship, they do not need to be paid, just ask Mrs. Arment to waive them. All unpaid fees are waived at the end of the school year.

End of the Year Medication Pick-up

Please make arrangements to pick up your child’s medication(s) on or before the last day of school. If it is not absolutely necessary for this medication to be at school until the last day of classes, then please pick up the medication as soon as possible. If your student will need us to administer medication next year, please have your healthcare provider complete the Medication Administration Authorization Form. All medication orders must be renewed each new school year. The BVSD Medication Administration Authorization form can be found on the BVSD Health Services Site under Student Health Forms.

Any medication not picked up by the end of the day on the last day of school will

be disposed of.

Thank you,

One last ask for the year! Something you can do as a family, too - the Garden to Table/school garden needs summer stewards to keep it growing and weed-free. You can find specific instructions and a sign up here for the weeks of summer. The time commitment is 2-3 visits to the garden during your one week. Garden to Table is part of our students' curriculum so we want to keep the garden in great shape for the next school year: https://bvsd.helpatschools.com/schools/32/events/11110

Please fill out this 3 question survey that will help the PTO communicate clearly and succinctly! https://forms.gle/5T8XrJmnERyuRFNz8

Edu-kits (pre-purchased school supplies) are available for order for the 23-24 school year until June 23. Here's the website to order specifically for our school/supply lists : https://www.edukitinc.com/schools/140/

A special shout-out to Leah Lawless for all of her great work organizing relay teams for the Colfax Marathon yesterday! Thank you, Leah, for creating such a fun opportunity for other parents to participate together.

Big news! The cougar carnival raised over $13K, and we are on track for meeting our $65K goal for the year! Thank you again to all of the parents and volunteers who helped us pull off the Carnival. We had over 75 parents volunteer, donate auction items, and support this tremendous endeavor. Special thanks to the Dodson family, Joe Merrill for his amazing auction software, the Miller family musicians, our Mountain Get Away donors, Todd Lammers (our MC), Anna Salim (our Carnival co-lead,) and Emma VandeRiet (Carnival co-lead.) We are so grateful to all of you!

We are looking for help for the upcoming 23-24 school year. We have the following open positions: Fundraising chair (or co-chairs) and Communications (chair or co-chairs). Please reach out to lafayettecougarpto@gmail.com if interested. We will begin to plan for next year over the summer.

Thank you all for another amazing year at Lafayette Elementary! We love serving our school and larger community. With your support, we have been able to provide funding for literacy and math tutors, classroom supplies, buses for field trips, library and specials funds, Garden to Table, and so much more. Go Cougars!
