Safety Week - KLSD will run a series of safety drills next week. These are only drills. We will be sure to communicate that clearly to the students. Prior to each drill, teachers will discuss what we are doing and why, as well assure the students that we are practicing situations so that we can keep each other safe. We will perform a lockdown and barricade drill, a mass evacuation drill, and a situational drill or a combination of both (barricade or evacuate). You can help by talking to your children at home about the importance of safety drills at school and reminding them not to worry, as we are just practicing! Thanks!
Mark your calendar for Friday September 15 for the KES Walk-a-thon! I will share more specific information soon regarding fundraising details. We are looking forward to walking many laps on the brand new track before a home Hornet football game!

Car Drop Off/Pick up Reminders:
If your child is a car rider, please refer to the traffic map shared below for a reminder of the procedure. Thank you for your patience, as we get everyone unloaded/loaded safely and in a timely manner. A few things to keep in mind:
Please do not get out of your cars in the line so that we can keep traffic moving.
Please do not let your child(ren) out of the car in the loop closest to the flag pole. We teach them to exit only from the line nearest to the building so that nobody is crossing through traffic.
Please do not allow your child(ren) to exit cars until 8:25 when the staff is outside to help. Thanks for your help!
KES Report Cards
Kirtland Elementary School is shifting to a new report card system, to reflect students’ learning progress. Our goal is to provide you with a report card that better reflects your child’s progress towards mastery of key skills in each grade and subject.
Over the past year, our staff worked closely with the Educational Service Center of Northeast Ohio to review the structure of our current report cards. We developed a more informative method to communicate how your child is developing throughout the school year, placing the focus right where it needs to be–on the learning.
Teachers are able to gather information on your child, come together as a team, and more authentically communicate student growth throughout the year to you. It will allow you to know more deeply how your child is progressing and in the ways they need to improve on specific year-long learning standards.
Thank you PTA!
Our PTA supports us in so many ways. Thank you for stocking our lounge with treats for the staff, for freshening up our bathrooms, for helping out with arrival and dismissal the first few days of school, and putting time into planning the many fun activities ahead this year. Mark your calendar for the first PTA meeting which will be held at Tavern Six on September 12th at 7:00pm.
