TEMPLE COMMUNITY CATS CLUB
Temple Community Cats Club is hosting a winter shelter building workshop where students will be crafting outdoor huts for neighborhood cats to take refuge in this winter on November 17th from 12-6pm! Come on, come all, just make sure you email us at templecommunitycatsclub@gmail.com to confirm what times we should be expecting you! No experience is necessary.
MENTAL HEALTH IN THE AGE OF MASS INCARCERATION
The objectives of the workshops are to 1) provide a general understanding of the emotional and physical impacts of trauma, 2) explore trauma-responsive approaches that could be applied to the criminal justice system, and 3) challenge the participants to envision a system the addresses the needs of all community members.
Over the two days we will facilitate ice breakers, brain-storming and question-storming sessions, activities that prompt reflection, and present relevant information to the group that is informational and prompts additional conversation. The first part of the talk will be on Monday, November 18th at 6:30pm in Anderson 102. The second talk will on Wednesday, November 20th at 6:30pm in Tuttleman 300AB. We will provide real case scenarios to the group and ask them to identify systemic issues, alternatives to incarceration, and the resulting outcomes that can be achieved with a new approach. Understanding the heaviness of the material and the impact it could have on the group, we have also included grounding activities and "dumping" circles. Please contact Amani Reid (tuf85127@temple.edu) with any questions or concerns!
