Principal's updates
Another excellent week at Imagine Schools. Last week the staff was busy receiving professional development in English Language Development, in differentiating instruction for students with disabilities and in designing instruction with the text at the center. As always our teachers are looking to improve their practice so that they can better serve all students.
We are quickly coming upon testing season and as you know it is important that students do their best on the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP). To help illustrate this the school celebrated the middle school students who did their best on last years test by taking them to Knott's Berry Farm on Thursday evening. We will be offering something for our 4th and 5th graders who did well last year very soon as well.
We also are closing in on the end of the third quarter. That means parent teacher conferences are scheduled for next week March 20-22nd. Please reach out to your teachers if you would like to make an appointment. We also have an Information Night scheduled for all 8th grade parents this Tuesday from 4:30 - 5:30PM. If you have a student in 8th grade you are invited to come. We will be discussing 8th grade promotion and rules to be able to walk and to attend end of year activities!
Also don't forget this Monday is picture day!
Imagine Spring Salsa Festival this Friday, March 15th
Parents you are all invited to join us on Friday, March 15th from 5PM to 7PM for our Second Annual Salsa Competition and Spring Festival. The teachers are preparing events and food sales for the entire family. We also will have food carts and local restaurants there as well as a few surprises!

March is Women's' Month
National Women's History Month 2024 celebrates “Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.” The theme recognizes women throughout the country who work to eliminate bias and discrimination from our lives and institutions. Here at Imagine we celebrate the women who make a difference in the lives of kids everyday. Thank you Moms, Grandmothers, Sisters, aunts, and other female family members that support our kids.
Imagine is also pleased to be attending the Women’s Month at Festival del Rebozo at Spotlight 29 Casino in Coachella on March 16th.
Counseling Corner
Why is it important to teach our children to resolve conflicts in a positive manner?
No one likes to deal with conflicts. And no matter how hard we try to avoid them, arguments, fights, and disagreements are a reality for adults and children alike. Not dealing with conflicts when they arise can negatively impact relationships and lead to more interpersonal challenges in the future.
Conflict may not be pleasant, but it doesn't have to be catastrophic. Teaching children practical skills to deal with them in a healthy way will help them, now and in the future, handle everything from petty disputes ("He took my wrist!"), to big problems ("I don't know if I want to be your friend anymore").
Here are 5 strategies and activities to help children resolve conflict:
1. Teach children to express their feelings safely.
2. Encourage communication to understand the situation.
3. Talk to children to help them understand each other's perspective.
4. Invite children to describe their own solutions.
5. Explain to children how to negotiate in conflict situations.
One of the most powerful things you can do to help your child learn how to resolve conflict is to show them how it's done. When you experience a conflict of your own (especially one with your child!), try to use healthy techniques. When appropriate, you can even talk to your child about how you resolved the conflict. Watching him succeed, and making mistakes along the way, shows kids that resolving conflict is actually doable, even when it's hard.
