We hope everyone is enjoying their summer break and had a 'fin'tastic' 4th of July!
NEW SCHOOL TIMES - Effective in September 2017!
7:35 AM - FIRST BELL (students may proceed to classrooms)
7:45 AM - SECOND/TARDY BELL (anyone arriving after this time should report to the main office for a tardy slip)
EARLY RELEASE WEDNESDAY'S (dismissal will be 40 minutes earlier at 1:35 PM for staff professional development)

We are working with our Monomoy Cooperative Learning Program (MCLP), Recreation Department, Harwich Jr. Theater, PTO and any/all affiliated community programs to develop a variety of after school opportunities for students and families.
Along with the already published 'MCPL Afterschool' programs, we are planning to offer a number of school sponsored clubs which will run 1 day/week from 2:30- 3:30 PM and as 8-week sessions. The first of four sessions, will begin on Sept.18th. There will be a $40/session fee associated with each club.
New clubs proposals for 2017-18 are as follows:
Suzuki Strings, Mindcraft, AV/Media, Jazz Band, Destination Imagination, Garden, Math, Fairy Tales Around the World, Project Based STEM and Homework Clubs...stay tuned for more information as dates get 'firmed' up.
Ann Emerson (Director of MCLP) will be generating more detailed brochures with registration information to be shared via connect-ed, social media and the MRSD website.
Mrs. Oldach representing HES at an end of year State House recognition ceremony for our efforts in promoting "Safe Routes to School"!
On Thursday, June 29th Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito and MassDOT Secretary and CEO Stephanie Pollack recognized nearly 80 award winners, who have helped to foster safe walking and bicycling environments at their schools and communities over the past year.
Awards were presented in one of four categories-Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Basic. To see the full list of award winners visit the MassDOT Blog.
In addition, Honor Roll awards were presented to 14 partners for their efforts that went above and beyond with regard to their SRTS program.

Summer 2017 building projects started with EAS Painting giving our cafeteria a new look!
...while RISE Engineers continued to work on replacing and upgrading all light fixtures (grant funded), which will provide greater energy efficiency and lower energy costs at HES...
...CAPITAL flooring began to replace our damaged Cafeteria floor...
...our custodial and maintenance staff is working together to prepare the building for 2017-18
The crew at first, focused on our Preschool and Kindergarten rooms while Rise Engineering installed energy efficient lighting fixtures...
...and without summer programs to work around, have been able to focus on deep cleaning whole sections at a time. Before (above)...and after (below)!

- the Title One Tutors, Make Way For Kids staff and our Extended School Year services staff and MCLP Summer Program for their commitment to supporting our your learners over the summer break and flexibility in relocating to CES and MRMS as the building projects took precedence here at HES!

NEW LUNCH PRICES for 2017-18
New 2017-18 ELEMENTARY SCHOOL LUNCH PRICES were approved by the school committee for the upcoming school year:
Breakfast=$1.50 each meal including milk
Lunch=$2.75 each meal including milk
Free & Reduced Lunch program (see below)
As any charges on accounts are a responsibility of the parent/Guardian(s) and cannot be credited if eligibility is determined at a later date, we encourage you to get a head start completing all forms for free and reduced lunch eligibility. These forms are due by October 1, 2017.
NOTE: If you participated in the Free & Reduced Lunch program last year and receive notification of Direct Certification (look for a mailing in early August) then you will not have to complete an application at all.
