Congratulations to Beth Holliday, executive secretary and bookkeeper at the Athens Community Career Academy, for being named CCSD's Employee of the Month for December!

Ms. Holliday has been with ACCA and CCSD since August 2013. She was nominated by several of her colleagues who agree that she is the person who keeps the career academy functioning smoothly with “incredible attention detail” and “always with a smile on her face.”

Superintendent Dr. Robbie Hooker and members of CCSD and ACCA staff surprised and presented Ms. Holliday with the award on Thursday, Dec. 15, and she was recognized that evening at the Board of Education meeting. She also was presented with the Employee of the Month gift bag, which is sponsored every month by the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce and contains gifts from numerous local businesses.

As a reminder, any member of the CCSD community (a parent/guardian, student, staff member, community/business leader) may nominate an employee for Employee of the Month. Click here for more information.

Signing Ceremony Held for 2022-23 REACH Scholars

On Thursday, Dec. 15, we were thrilled to hold a signing ceremony and reception for our 2022-23 REACH Scholar cohort at the district office. Congratulations to Jazlyn Gonzalez-Albarran (Burney-Harris-Lyons Middle), Mackenzie Moore (Clarke Middle), Angel Jones (Coile Middle), Steve Koonce (Coile Middle), and Karlos Ortega-Martinez (Hilsman Middle)!

As announced in October, these five students will be awarded scholarships through REACH Georgia (Realizing Educational Achievement Can Happen), a mentoring and scholarship program providing students a framework of support (educational and financial) to aid their successful journey through high school and beyond.

Scholars must maintain at least a 2.5 grade-point average and good behavior and attendance throughout middle and high school. Upon program completion, students are awarded a $10,000 scholarship, which can be used at any HOPE-eligible institution in Georgia. A majority of Georgia colleges match or double-match this scholarship.

During Thursday's ceremony, the students and their parents signed all the paperwork to commit to satisfying all program requirements. Following the reception, the students were also recognized during the Thursday night Board of Education meeting.

The Foundation for Excellence in Public Education in Clarke County has announced the winners of the organization's annual June Baldwin Turnell Aspiring Teacher Grant.
